Springfield Man Arrested for Embezzling $50,000 from Youth Football League

EUGENE, Ore. — A 38-year-old Springfield man, Ean Douglas Lynum , was arrested on September 10 by the Eugene Police Department’s Property and Financial Crimes Unit following an investigation into the theft of approximately $50,000 from a Bethel area youth football league. Lynum, who served as the league’s treasurer, allegedly drained the league’s entire fund balance, leaving no resources for essential gear for young athletes. The suspect faces charges of Aggravated Theft in the First Degree and Theft in the First Degree. Due to Lynum’s involvement in other sports programs, authorities are concerned about potential unreported cases. Sheriff’s Office Arrests Suspect in Lane County Bank Robberies

EUGENE, Ore. — On September 10, Lane County Sheriff’s Office detectives identified and arrested Clarke Chaos Zyz , 37, also known as Clarke Reese McMakin, of Eugene, in connection with two bank robberies that occurred the previous day in Creswell and Cottage Grove.  The suspect, described as a white male, approximately 6’ 4" tall, 220 pounds, with a medium build and full beard, was last seen wearing a green ball cap, aviator sunglasses, a black jacket, black sweatpants, grey gloves, and black shoes with white soles. Deputies identified his vehicle as a gold 1999 Ford Escort ZX2. The robberies took place on September 9, with the suspect using a note to demand money and threaten a teller at Banner Bank in Creswell around 2 p.m., following a similar incident earlier that day in Cottage Grove. Bicyclist Injured in Eugene Hit-and-Run, Suspect Arrested

EUGENE, Ore. — A 55-year-old bicyclist was injured in a hit-and-run crash involving a vehicle at the Night Inn Motel on West 6th Avenue, according to the Eugene Police Department. The incident occurred at 6:11 p.m. on September 6, prompting a swift response from officers. Upon arrival, police found the injured bicyclist, who declined medical treatment from the Eugene-Springfield Fire Department. Witnesses reported that the driver, identified as 32-year-old Joseph Charles Pecue , briefly stopped to check on the bicyclist and moved the bicycle to the sidewalk before leaving the scene. Hotel surveillance footage captured the vehicle, which was registered to Pecue. Officers located him at his residence, and after further investigation, Pecue was arrested for felony hit-and-run and cited for failing to stop at a driveway or sidewalk.  He was booked into Lane County Jail. Man Arrested After Standoff in Eugene Domestic Dispute

EUGENE, Ore. — A 39-year-old man, Matthew Ryan Pyle , was arrested early Friday morning following a domestic dispute and standoff at a residence in the 1400 block of W. 3rd Avenue , according to the Eugene Police Department. At 3:23 a.m., Central Lane 911 received a call with a woman and man yelling on an open line. Officers responded in emergency mode due to a history of prior calls from the address. The woman safely left the residence, but Pyle, who had an outstanding warrant for violating a restraining order and assault charges, remained inside, potentially armed with guns and knives. The Eugene Police Crisis Negotiation Team attempted to communicate with Pyle, who responded intermittently but refused to exit. SWAT, drone units, and K9 teams cleared the main residence and searched the property, locating Pyle in a trailer. Eugene Police Investigate Early Morning Shooting, One Suspect Still at Large

EUGENE, Ore. — Eugene Police are actively investigating a shooting that occurred around 5:06 a.m. on September 3 near E. 30th Avenue and Spring Boulevard, prompting road closures and a significant law enforcement response. Authorities have advised the public to avoid the area as the investigation continues. According to the Eugene Police Department (EPD), one person was injured in the incident and transported to a local hospital. The condition of the victim has not been disclosed. EPD, in collaboration with the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, has deployed drones and K9 units to search for a second individual involved in the incident, who remains at large. Police have conducted an extensive area search and canvassed the neighborhood. Pedestrian Killed in Hit-and-Run on Highway 126; Suspect Vehicle Sought

VENETA, Ore. — A 22-year-old pedestrian was fatally struck in a hit-and-run crash on Highway 126 at Huston Road in Lane County early Sunday morning, August 31, 2025. Oregon State Police responded to the scene at approximately 5:59 a.m. after reports of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision. The victim, identified as Dakota Blue Gilbert of Veneta, entered the roadway and was hit by an eastbound sport utility vehicle, according to preliminary investigations. Gilbert was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver fled and remains unidentified. Authorities believe the suspect vehicle is a light-colored 2010-2013 Chevrolet Equinox, likely with front-end damage, possibly lower to the ground, but still operable. The Oregon State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is leading the investigation and is seeking public assistance to locate the vehicle and driver.
