Victim and Suspect Names Released in Royal Ave. Murder Investigation

Eugene, Or. - At 3 a.m. on September 1, Eugene Police received reports of a loud dispute with shots fired outside a home near Royal Avenue and Ruskin Street. Units arrived to find a woman, Haley Leann Mackin , age 23, deceased with gunshot wounds.  Eugene Police Violent Crimes Unit identified Brandon Daniel Smith , age 24, as the suspect. Mackin and Smith had previously been in a relationship. Mackin was recently granted an order of protection against Smith.  Smith was taken into custody by EPD at 5:05 a.m. at  4th Avenue and Pearl Street . Eugene Police thanks Springfield Police and Lane County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance during the apprehension. Smith had plead guilty to, and been convicted of, assault in the forth degree misdemeanor DV against Mackin earlier this year on 04/10/2024. Case # 24CR11412. Smith was on probation at the time of this incident. Court records show that Smith is currently appealing this conviction.  Smith is lodged at Lane County Jail on a charge of

13-Year-Old Calls 911 on Mother Driving Recklessly

Springfield, Or. - On Monday, August 25, 2024, Springfield Police Department Officers were made aware of a blue Subaru that was being driven recklessly through red lights and traveling eastbound on Beltline towards Springfield.  The Subaru was reported by an 13-year-old juvenile in the vehicle, who had called 911 to report that their mother, Camie Colleen Sorensen , age 43, was driving recklessly and looking for “water to drive into”.  An officer positioned themselves in the Gateway area, in the event that the Subaru entered Springfield. Shortly after, the Subaru passed the officer before briefly yielding at a red light. The vehicle then accelerated away at a high rate of speed as the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop.  The vehicle continued southbound on Pioneer Parkway West, weaving through traffic, and driving dangerously. UPDATE: Aug. 20th, 2024 The suspect in this officer involved shooting was TIMOTHY JOHN MARTIN . Martin was just booked into the Lane County Jail less than an hour ago.  Original information from EPD: Eugene, Ore. - Around 2 p.m. today, Aug. 14th, Eugene Police had located a man wanted out of a Portland-area agency for Attempted Murder in the Second Degree with a Firearm, Assault in the First Degree with a Firearm, Unlawful Use of a Weapon with a Firearm, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.  Detectives had been surveilling him when he began to leave in a truck about 4:30 p.m. Two SWAT vehicles pinned him in to prevent him from escape. Eugene Police’s Crisis Negotiation Team took over negotiating with the man for almost 2 1/2 hours before shots were fired around 6:26 p.m. Officers moved up with shields even though the suspect was thought to still have access to a firearm.  They provided emergency first aid with a tourniquet until Eugene Springfield Fire medics were able to get into the

Arrest Made in Murder Investigation North of Coburg

**UPDATE** At about 9:30 p.m., Detectives arrested Sean Joseph Lynn , 30, for Murder in the 2nd Degree. He was lodged at the Lane County Jail.  The deceased victim in this case was identified as Derrick Adam McKee , 49, of Harrisburg Coburg, Ore. - On August 19th at about 3 p.m., Lane County Sheriff’s deputies, Oregon State Police, Coburg Police and Linn County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported shooting in the 33000 block of Coleman Road north of Coburg.  When they arrived at the location, a male was deceased from a gunshot wound. Detectives began interviewing involved residents, and the investigation is ongoing. There is no ongoing danger to the public. Deputies Arrest Suspect after Brass Knuckles Assault in Glenwood

Glenwood, Ore. - On August 4th at about 4 p.m., Lane County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported assault in the 1700 block of Concord Avenue in the Glenwood area of Eugene.  They discovered a victim had been punched in the head several times with brass knuckles. Deputies located the suspect, Donovan Ben Patrick Allen, 43, at a property in the 28700 block of Fox Hollow Road. Allen initially refused to cooperate with deputies, who applied for and were granted a search warrant. Woman Awakes to Hear Unknown Person in the Shower

Eugene, Or. - At 11:17 a.m. on August 16, Eugene Police officers responded to a call from a woman in the west University area reporting an unknown person was in her house, using her shower.   She had awakened to hear someone in the shower and got up to investigate. She saw a man, left the apartment, and called police. Upon arrival, officers made several unsuccessful efforts to hail the suspect to come out.  Officers entered the home and made additional attempts to get the unwanted visitor to come out and finally a male began to walk down the stairs, but then reversed and went back upstairs. Officers subsequently located an unclothed man, Isaac Arthur Goodman , age 34, in the shower and he was arrested without incident.  He was transported to Lane County Jail and lodged on multiple warrants and a charge of Burglary. Deputies Attempting to Locate Suspect in Multiple Vehicle Break-Ins

McKenzie Bridge Or. - On July 21st, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office received numerous reports of vehicles being broken into in the McKenzie Bridge area.  A local business owner first observed the suspect vehicle driving through the area early in the morning. When he learned of the break-ins, he contacted one of the McKenzie River District Deputies. Lewis 2019 Deputies determined the owner of the vehicle was Codey Lee Lewis . Coburg Police located the vehicle later that night being driven by Lewis. Lewis was lodged at the Lane County Jail on unrelated warrants. The vehicle was impounded. On July 22nd, deputies executed a search warrant on the truck and a large amount of the stolen property was located. Further investigation led to the recovery of more stolen property from an address in McKenzie Bridge. Deputies identified the second suspect as  Justin Wayne Arbogast , 40, of Coburg. Eugene, Or. - At 8:31 a.m. on August 16, Eugene Police was dispatched to locate a possibly intoxicated driver.  A white BMW SUV X3 was reported to have been doing ‘donuts in the intersection of W. 11th and Beltline and subsequently crashed into a light pole and was leaking fluids on the south side of W. 11th near the LTD bus stop. Medics were requested and the driver, John Michael Pierce , age 35, of Eugene, was transported to a local hospital. Police officers found drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. Pierce was charged with DUII and Reckless Driving. Detectives Interrupt Vehicle Break-In of Their Own Squad Car

Eugene, Or. - In the morning of August 13th, Lane County Sheriff’s detectives working in the River Road area were away from their undercover police vehicle. Another detective, sitting in his car next to the unoccupied vehicle, noticed two people who appeared to be casing cars in the parking lot.  One of the subjects, identified as Melissa Marie Jones, 42, produced a key and attempted to open a door of the unoccupied police vehicle while the second subject, Trinidad Robert Perez, Jr., 61, appeared to be acting as a lookout.  Jones and Perez were detained and identified. After further investigation, both were arrested for Unlawful Entry into a Motor Vehicle. Jones was also arrested on a Fugitive from Justice charge for an out-of-state warrant, and Perez was also charged for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender. Firefighters Respond to Late Night House Fire in Eugene

Eugene, OR.  Eugene Springfield Fire responded to a house fire in West Eugene just before midnight Sunday.   Firefighters were called to 4723 Marshall Ave at 11:43 PM on June 30th.  Callers from across the street reported smoke and fire from the home.  The first arriving firefighters found fire through the roof of the garage and a well involved attic fire.  The home was heavily damaged, but there were no reported injuries.   The cause is under investigation. Firefighters Respond to Three Small Fires in Glenwood

Springfield, OR.  Eugene Springfield Fire responded to three small fires along the railroad tracks in Glenwood.  Firefighters were called to the railroad tracks under Glenwood Blvd at 12:31 PM on Sunday June 30th.  Crews arrived to find three rubbish fires along the tracks with the largest at .10 acre and spreading up hill.   Firefighters had to request the railroad and Glenwood Blvd be shut down for the safety of operations. Crews stretched hundreds of feet of hose to access the fire. In all, 2 engines, a brush truck, a water tender, 2 battalion chiefs and 1 deputy fire marshal responded for a total of 15 personnel.   The cause is under investigation. ESF Firefighters Handle Several Critical Calls Saturday

Eugene, OR. Eugene Springfield Fire responded to simultaneous critical calls Saturday afternoon, including a car fire, and a water rescue.   At 1:54 Pm on Saturday June 29th, crews were dispatched to a non-injury car accident with a car on the ditch on fire.  Crews arrived to find the car burning and spreading to the grass.  The fire was contained to a small area.  At 2:01 PM, Boats 5&6, Engine 14, Medic, 4 and Battalion Chiefs 1&3 were dispatched to a water rescue on the McKenzie River between Hayden Bridge and Harvest Landing in Springfield.  Callers reported an unconscious female floating in the river after falling out of her raft.  Boat 5 happened to be training in the vicinity call and was quick to arrive.   Bystanders had gotten the female to the shore and initiated CPR.  Boat 5 quickly loaded the patient on their boat and continued CPR to the nearest boat launch where Engine 14 was waiting to begin advanced life support.  Crews successfully resuscitated the patient and s

Sheriff's Search & Rescue & Deputies Recover Body at Terwilliger Hot Springs

Lane County, Or. - On Saturday, June 22nd at about 9 a.m., Lane County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue personnel and deputies responded to the Terwilliger Hot Springs to assist Upper McKenzie Fire Department with an unresponsive patient.  Shortly after being dispatched, the subject was declared deceased. Search & Rescue assisted with carrying the subject along the hiking path down to the parking lot and deputies began an investigation into the cause of the person’s death.  The subject was identified as Jesse James Calkins , 40, of Hines, Oregon. Male Arrested in Pleasant Hill After Assaulting Female and Deputies

Pleasant Hill, Or. - On June 27th at about 5 p.m., Lane County Sheriff’s deputies and Oregon State Police troopers responded to the 85100 block of Winding Way, Pleasant Hill, after a juvenile told a neighbor someone was trying to kill their mother.  When deputies arrived on scene, a female was found unconscious in the yard with injuries. A nearby male, Dillion Shane Simmons , 31, fought with deputies when told he was under arrest.  Once Simmons was in custody, he and the female were transported to the hospital for treatment.  A Lane County Sheriff’s sergeant also responded to an area hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the arrest.  Simmons was lodged in the Lane County Jail for Assault in the 3rd Degree, Assault in the 4th Degree (APA), Unlawful Use of a Weapon, two counts of Menacing, and Resisting Arrest.  Thanks to the Oregon State Police and Pleasant Hill Fire Department for their assistance during this incident.  News Release from Lane Co. Deputies Locate and Arrest Assault Suspect

Swisshome, Or. = On June 25th at about 10:30 a.m., Lane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of an assault in the 12700 block of Village Loop Road in Swisshome.  While enroute, deputies learned the suspect, Alexander Blake Cullen, 24, had fled in a vehicle.  Deputies responded to the location and set up on surrounding roads. Thanks to their teamwork, they soon located Cullen in a parking lot in Veneta, roughly 40 miles from where the incident occurred.  Cullen was arrested without further incident and lodged at the Lane County Jail on charges of * Assault 4 APA, Menacing APA, Coercion, Harassment x2, Criminal Mischief 1, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. Firefighters Tackle Two Fires in Eugene Friday

Eugene, Or -. Eugene Springfield Fire responded to two fires within about 30 minutes Friday afternoon.  At 1:12 PM on June 28th, firefighters were called to a structure fire at Edgewood Home Furnishings located at 155 Division Ave in North Eugene.  Firefighters arrived to find an exterior corner of the building on fire.  The fire was contained to the area of origin.  Witnesses reported the fire may have been set intentionally.  ESF Fire Marshals are investigating.  click to enlarge At 1:47 PM firefighters were called to a grass fire at 384 Wallis St in West Eugene.  Arriving crews found a fast moving fire in the grass.  In all about .15 of an acre was burned thanks to a quick response and deployment from Station 8. Drunk Driver Sentenced in Fatal 2021 Crash

Eugene, Ore. - ALFRED CALDERA SANTOS , age 64, was convicted, and sentenced today in the death of  Zakkary McCann (29) of Mapleton. On December 14, 2021 at approximately 7:40 AM, Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a two-vehicle crash on Hwy 126W at milepost 29 .  Preliminary investigation revealed a westbound Dodge Caravan, operated by Alfred Santos (62) of Eugene, collided head-on with an eastbound Toyota Camry, operated by Zakkary McCann (29) of Mapleton.  McCann sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. A passenger in the Toyota Camry, Kussaundra Stevenson (25) of Mapleton, received minor injuries. Santos was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.  Santos was found guilty of: 163.145 - CRIMINALLY NEGLIGENT HOMICIDE 163.160 - ASSAULT 4TH DEG 813.010 - DRIVE UNDER INFLUENCE INTOXICANTS Santos was sentenced to 3 years, 6 months in prison. Fentanyl Linked to Multiple Overdoses in Eugene

Eugene, Or. - The Eugene Police Department is urging the public to exercise extreme caution due to a potentially deadly batch of fentanyl circulating in the Washington Jefferson Park area.  Patrol officers responded to a report of a deceased individual on the sidewalk at West 4th Avenue and Washington Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered a deceased male with evidence suggesting a recent overdose. While canvassing the area, officers encountered two additional overdose cases. One individual appeared to succumb to an overdose in front of the officers. However, thanks to the quick response of the officers and medics on the scene, the individual was revived. This alarming series of events resulted in three overdoses within a short period of time in the Washington Jefferson Park area. Given the severity and frequency of these incidents, there is reason to believe there is a bad batch of fentanyl in circulation. SCU Makes Arrest and Seizes a Large Quantity of Fentanyl and Meth

Eugene, Or. - On June 13, during an ongoing investigation, SCU conducted surveillance of 30 year-old Eugene resident, Elise Lindey Olson , and observed her meet with her drug supplier. After that meeting, SCU contacted Olson and subsequently arrested her after seizing approximately 3.5 grams of fentanyl. SCU Officers then immediately transitioned their investigation to her drug supplier, 29 year-old Sean Timothy Archer . Archer was stopped and detained shortly after leaving a residence in Springfield. Following a search warrant service on Archer’s car, SCU Officers seized approximately 50 grams of methamphetamine, two stolen handguns, body armor, and approximately 10 ounces of fentanyl, in both pill and powder form. Of note, the wholesale value of an ounce of Fentanyl is approximately $1000. When broken into gram amounts for resale, this same ounce is worth approximately $1500. Junction City, Or. - On the afternoon of June 19th, Lane County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 23900 block of High Pass Road for a violation of a restraining order by Jeremy Allen Johnson , 35.  K9 Hektor When deputies arrived at the victim’s residence, Johnson fled. Eugene, Or. -  Eugene Springfield Fire responded to a food truck fire located at 90330 HWY 99 North in Eugene Friday Morning.   Firefighters were called to the scene at 8:51 AM.  Initially reposted as a small structure fire, ESF responded with 3 engines and truck and chief officer. The fire was contained to the food truck and two bystanders were treated for smoke and extinguisher inhalation.   The cause is under investigation. Witnesses Sought in Brazen Daylight Rape Near 99 W. 10th Avenue

Eugene, Or. - A Eugene Police Violent Crimes detective is asking for witnesses to come forward with information about a broad-daylight rape case that happened between noon and 12:30 p.m. on June 17, in the Broadway Alley/Willamette Alley area, near W. 10th Avenue.  The surveillance video shows several possible witnesses passing by around the time of the rape. The Broadway Alley and Willamette Alley is behind Cowfish and the Atrium Building - in parking lot area. Fatal Crash - HWY 58

Lane County, Ore. - On Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 3:08 p.m., Oregon State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash on Hwy 58, near milepost 46, in Lane County. The preliminary investigation indicated an eastbound Ford F-350, operated by Will Ed Bryson Jr. (77) of Klamath Falls, left the roadway for unknown reasons and struck a tree.  The operator of the Ford (W. Bryson) was declared deceased while in transport to an area hospital. The passenger of the Ford, Lynda Ellen Bryson (78) of Klamath Falls, was transported by ground ambulance and life-flighted to an area hospital. The highway was not impacted during the on-scene investigation. Animal Neglect Convict Sentenced to 4 Years in Prison

Lane County, Or. - In 2020, Creswell-area resident Raina Ott entered into a deferred sentencing agreement related to neglect of horses. In January 2023, she was found to have violated the agreement. Ott was convicted, given a 45-day jail sentence, and was put on probation. She was prohibited from any dealings or contact with animals. Between April 2023 and January 2024, Ott committed a series of probation violations and crimes. Ott purchased nearly 100 head of cattle at livestock auctions in Linn and Lane County using fake names, then sold them via social media. The check used to finalize one purchase bounced. Eugene, Or. - On Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at 4:26 p.m., an Oregon State Trooper conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of River Avenue and State Route 569 (Beltline Highway) in Eugene.  During the encounter, the driver exited and attempted to obtain a firearm from the passenger side of the vehicle and a less lethal force option (Taser) was deployed but was not successful. The suspect did not comply with verbal commands and was able to obtain the firearm resulting in the trooper shooting the subject with his department-issued firearm.  Emergency medical aid was immediately provided and medical personnel from Eugene-Springfield Fire Department responded; however, the subject was declared deceased at the scene. Springfield, Or. - On Sunday, June 9th at 11:45pm both Eugene and Springfield Police departments began to receive calls reporting a vehicle traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of highway 126 in Eugene. Officers from both agencies responded but were unable to locate and stop the vehicle before it collided with another vehicle.  The crash occurred just west of the Pioneer Parkway overpass in Springfield. The driver and single occupant of the vehicle that was struck were transported to Riverbend hospital for treatment of possible life-threatening injuries. \ The driver and passenger of the vehicle traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes were not seriously injured and are cooperating with the investigation. Suspected Impaired Driver Causes Crash

Springfield, Or. - On June 10th, 2024, at 08:34pm the Springfield Police Department responded to a reported two vehicle crash that occurred in the westbound lanes of highway 126, at the intersection of 52nd Street.  Upon arrival, officers found the drivers of both involved vehicles were the only occupants. The female driver of one of the vehicles, Devin Ashley Cogdill of Eugene, was found to be impaired.  The driver of the vehicle that was struck was removed from the vehicle and transported to an area hospital for treatment. Protective Order Violation Results In Injury - Suspect Arrested

Springfield, Or. - On June 10th, 2024, at 0640 hours, officers responded to a reported violation of a stalking protective order that had resulted in injury.  The victim had confronted the suspect,  MICHELLE JULIA LAWSON , who was in violation of the order. Lawson produced a cleaver style knife and swung in the direction of the victim, connecting with the victim’s forearm on the second attempt. Lawson then fled from the area and the victim ran into the residence to administer aid to himself.  Around 0830 hours, SPD dispatch was contacted by the suspect’s daughter who was able to provide officers with Lawson’s location. Officers located Lawson near 155 Q Street and were successfully able to pin her vehicle, rendering it unmovable. Officers began to hail Lawson and give admonishments, which she ignored.  A member of the SPD Crisis Negotiation Team responded to the area and was able to contact Lawson. Firefighters Respond to Industrial Fire in West Eugene

Eugene, Or. - At just after 10:30 AM on June 10th, Eugene Springfield Fire was called to a mill in at 2125 Cross St in West Eugene after workers at Architectural Millwork noticed smoke coming from a hopper filled with sawdust.  Generally this means the hopper needs to be evacuated to extinguish the embers, which requires opening the hopper causing a small dust explosion. LCSO Attempted Rape Suspect Now Charged in EPD Double Rape Case Too

Eugene, Or. - UPDATE: Jail records show a new double rape case now on Boyd's jail records. Jail records also show that this is an EPD case.  Boyd was charged with the EPD double rape case while Boyd was in jail for the LCSO attempted rape case.
