13-Year-Old Calls 911 on Mother Driving Recklessly

Springfield, Or. - On Monday, August 25, 2024, Springfield Police Department Officers were made aware of a blue Subaru that was being driven recklessly through red lights and traveling eastbound on Beltline towards Springfield.

The Subaru was reported by an 13-year-old juvenile in the vehicle, who had called 911 to report that their mother, Camie Colleen Sorensen, age 43, was driving recklessly and looking for “water to drive into”.

An officer positioned themselves in the Gateway area, in the event that the Subaru entered Springfield. Shortly after, the Subaru passed the officer before briefly yielding at a red light. The vehicle then accelerated away at a high rate of speed as the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop.

The vehicle continued southbound on Pioneer Parkway West, weaving through traffic, and driving dangerously. The vehicle made an abrupt stop in the middle of the Pioneer Parkway & Q Street intersection, at which point officers approached the vehicle. As two officers took Sorensen into custody, a third safely retrieved the juvenile who had called 911 from the back seat of the vehicle.

Sorensen was lodged at the Lane County Jail on the charges below. [Sorensen has since been released]
