Street Crimes Unit Search Warrant Yields Arrest on Drug and Domestic Violence Charges
Eugene, Ore. - While following up on information provided by members of the public about drug dealing in the West University and Downtown areas, Eugene Police Street Crimes Unit officers gained information that 35-year-old Eugene resident Alexander Hibdon was using and distributing narcotics from his residence in the 300 block of East 13th Avenue.
SCU applied for a search warrant, which was approved by a local judge for Hibdon’s residence seeking drug evidence and evidence of another crime. While in the process of securing the warrant, SCU officers also developed Probable Cause for Domestic Violence crimes for Hibdon.
Eugene Police SCU officers and Special Investigations Unit detectives located Hibdon and the vehicle he was associated with at his residence at 4:54 p.m. on August 16. Given Hibdon’s previous statements about an armed confrontation with police, and reports of him possessing a firearm, SCU requested EPD SWAT assets to more safely take Hibdon into custody outside his residence, near his vehicle. The search warrant yielded drug evidence and a rifle.
Hibdon was charged with Unlawful Delivery of Methamphetamine, Unlawful Manufacture of Methamphetamine, Child Neglect in the First Degree, Felon in Possession of a Firearm (Case 23-12075), and Assault in the Second Degree Abuse Prevention Act (domestic violence), and Menacing Abuse Prevention Act (Case #23-11690). Note: no children were present at the residence during the serving of the search warrant, due to planning by EPD and other agencies.
SCU is funded by the City of Eugene’s Community Safety Payroll Tax and works in concert with communities to help solve issues. The unit focuses on prolific offenders, who are identified through intelligence-based policing, public tips, and other sources. They proactively respond across the city to quality-of-life issues as they arise, using all available resources and partners such as community groups, neighborhood associations and city services. SCU is dedicated to targeting immediate and acute community safety system issues while working toward mission-critical enhancements that need to be addressed through a longer-term and broader community safety initiative.
