EPD Busts Major Meth Haul: 73 Pounds Seized on I-5

EUGENE, Ore. — Eugene Police Department (EPD) officers, with assistance from the Oregon State Police (OSP) Drug Interdiction Team, arrested two local residents on November 11, 2025, after intercepting approximately 73 pounds of methamphetamine worth an estimated $50,000 wholesale on Interstate 5 near Cottage Grove. Alejandra Diaz Alcantar , 45, and Juan Alberto Alvarado Gonzalez , 41, both of Eugene, were under investigation by the EPD Street Crimes Unit (SCU) for allegedly transporting 50 to 80 pounds of drugs from California. Officers learned the pair had traveled south from their residence in the 1400 block of Railroad Boulevard, with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirming their presence in California based on a vehicle description. Eugene Police Shoot Armed Man Wielding Shotgun

EUGENE, Ore. — Eugene Police officers shot and wounded a 40-year-old man armed with a shotgun after he was reported menacing people in the 1400 block of Railroad Boulevard on Wednesday afternoon. The incident began at 12:32 p.m. when 911 callers alerted authorities to the armed suspect. Additional reports described him threatening others with the weapon. Officers arrived in emergency response mode, and at 12:50 p.m., shots were fired, leaving the suspect down at 160 Madison St.  Police provided immediate medical aid, and Eugene Springfield Fire personnel responded once the scene was secured.  The man, whose injuries appear non-life-threatening, was transported to a local hospital. Fatal Head-On Crash on Hwy 126 West Shuts Down Road for 8 Hours

EUGENE, Ore. – A deadly three-vehicle collision on Highway 126 West just west of KR Neilsen Road in Lane County claimed one life and left another driver seriously injured Friday afternoon, November 7, 2025. Oregon State Police responded around 3:15 p.m. to reports of the crash. The preliminary investigation indicated a westbound Honda Accord, operated by Russell Fredrick Moncrief (52) of Eugene, braked suddenly and was struck in the rear by a westbound Chevrolet Silverado, operated by Scott Allen Zipprich (52) of Elmira. The collision caused the Chevrolet to enter the eastbound lane and strike an eastbound Dodge Stratus, operated by Vincent George Canham (84) of Eugene, head-on. Eugene Woman Sentenced to Just Over Four Years in $560K Embezzlement

  EUGENE, Ore. — A 60-year-old Eugene woman, Miranda Renee Wilcox , was arrested on May 14, 2025, for allegedly stealing approximately $560,000 from Homes for Good , Lane County’s public housing authority, the Eugene Police Department announced. The theft was first reported in September 2024 when Homes for Good, a nonprofit providing housing assistance to low-income residents, discovered financial inconsistencies linked to Wilcox, an HR and payroll specialist whose primary role was managing payroll. Initially, the organization estimated losses at over $125,000. However, after months of investigation by the Eugene Police Financial Crimes Unit, which reviewed thousands of pages of bank statements with assistance from Homes for Good, the total loss was determined to be approximately $560,000. Springfield Man Guilty of Child Sex Crimes, Sentenced to Measure 11 Term Until 2045

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Ryder Dean Waddington , a 31-year-old male, was found guilty on four felony charges following his arrest by the Springfield Police Department on April 3, 2025. Waddington was convicted of four counts of first-degree sex abuse, under case number 25CR58164. The charges stem from incidents that led to his initial booking into Lane County Jail around 9 p.m. PDT on April 3. Following his conviction, Waddington was transferred to Coffee Creek Correctional Facility for intake processing. After intake, he will be transferred to an all-male prison. As a Measure 11 offense, Waddington’s uncalculated end-of-sentence date is October 30, 2045, which does not include credit for time served in county lockup. Once calculated, he will serve the full sentence day-for-day, minus any time served in county lockup prior to sentencing.
