On July 2, 2025, Kohberger pleaded guilty in open court to four counts of first-degree murder and one count of felony burglary in the killings of Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin. He did so as part of a plea agreement that removed the death penalty in exchange for four consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole, plus 10 years for the burglary charge.
