Hit and Run Crash Involving Serious Injury

Cottage Grove, Or. - UPDATE FROM EPD 7/14/2023 - Deputies located the suspect vehicle from this case in the Cottage Grove area and determined it to be a gray 2009 Honda Civic. Deputies also identified the driver as 24-year-old Modesto Ramos-Lopez. Deputies contacted Ramos-Lopez yesterday afternoon and took him into custody without incident. He was lodged at the Lane County Jail on charges including Assault in the 2nd Degree, Hit & Run, Reckless Driving, and Assault in the 4th Degree. Fatal Traffic Crash on London Rd.

Cottage Grove, Ore. - This morning shortly after 3:00am, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office received the report of a two-vehicle traffic crash on London Rd. near milepost 11.  Preliminary investigation reveals that a white Ford pickup had been driving southbound on London Rd. when it failed to negotiate a curve.  The pickup crossed into the oncoming lane and struck a northbound Dodge pickup head-on. The driver of the Dodge pickup died at the scene.  The driver of the Ford pickup was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.  This crash is still under investigation.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the Lane County Sheriff’s Office at 541-682-4179 opt. 1.    News Release from Lane Co. Seeking Tips in Lumen - Century Link Wire Thefts

Eugene, Ore. - Eugene Police and Lumen/Century Link are seeking leads in multiple copper wire thefts at the company’s utility boxes (pedestals) around the city. Since June 7, 2023 Lumen/CenturyLink has been the victim of 35 separate acts of these thefts, totaling more than $132,000 in damages.  The suspect(s) could be posing as contractors, using a van or a truck with a temporary magnetic sign to steal copper from pedestals and cross boxes around Eugene. The suspect(s) could also approach on foot with no vehicle, possibly wearing some sort of safety vest to appear official. They use this method as to conceal their theft and vandalism activity.  Above and beyond the financial and physical damage, this activity could damage Central Lane’s 911 system and may prevent access to emergency services because of the damage. Sheriff's Office Seeks Assault Suspect

Eugene, Ore. - On July 6th Lane County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the report of an assault in a wooded area near the 5300blk of Franklin Blvd.   53-year-old Matthew Lawrence Kubal reportedly struck two different people in the head with rocks before fleeing the scene on a bicycle. Both victims were transported to an area hospital and treated for head injuries.  Kubal is described as a white male adult with brown hair and brown eyes.  He stands approximately 5’07” and weighs approximately 180lbs. Kubal’s whereabouts are currently unknown and he is believed to be transient. Man Arrested for Harassment, Resisting Arrest

  Eugene, Ore. - At approximately 12:10 p.m. on July 7, Eugene Police received a call of a trespasser at the 700 block of Willamette Street . Markus Sterling Fletcher , age 48 was seen shoving items through a mail slot and had previously been trespassing. When confronted at the location by a tenant, Fletcher lunged at and struck the tenant with his belongings. Fletcher was soon spotted by Eugene officers near W. Seventh and Willamette Street. Two officers attempted to place Fletcher under arrest at which point Fletcher fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit, several officers managed to detain Fletcher. Fletcher kicked officers while he was being placed in handcuffs and officers sustained minor injuries. Fletcher was transported to Lane County Jail on previous warrants as well as new charges for harassment, menacing, criminal mischief, resisting arrest, criminal trespass and escape from custody. Oregon County Fair Traffic Safety Patrols

Veneta, Ore. - The Lane County Sheriff's Office and Oregon State Police will be conducting high visibility traffic enforcement patrols in the Veneta area during the Oregon Country Fair, held on July 7th, 8th and 9th, 2023.  Deputies and Troopers will be focusing on unsafe driving behaviors including impaired driving, speeding, and cell phone use. Extra patrols will continue through Monday, July 10th, as attendees remain in the area.  The funding for these patrols is provided through the Oregon Department of Transportation Traffic Safety grants, administered by the Oregon State Sheriffs’ Association.  The federally funded grants provide overtime funding to participating Sheriff’s Offices for DUII and traffic enforcement.  The patrols aim to reduce the number of vehicle crashes and related injuries.  Annually, the Oregon Country Fair brings extremely high volumes of vehicle and pedestrian traffic to the area. Trailer Load of Vehicles Overturns on I-5

Eugene, Ore. - Eugene Springfield Fire crews responded to a motor vehicle accident on I-5 near I105 westbound at approximately 8:30 AM Friday morning.  One individual was trapped in an overturned pickup truck pulling a trailer of vehicles. Crews stabilized the vehicle, evaluated the patient, and utilized multiple extrication tools to remove the roof of the truck.  Crews rescued the individual who was then transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
