Life Sentence for Convicted Murderer





Eugene, Ore. - The suspect, James Paul Cable, has been sentenced to life in prison for Murder in the Second Degree. He has the possibility of parole after 25 years. He also received 25 months for Assault on a Public Safety Officer to be served concurrently to his life sentence. 

The victim, Daniel Pizzutti, who was 35 at the time, was Cable’s roommate and died after being repeatedly struck in the head with a frying pan. The case was investigated by the Eugene Police Violent Crimes Unit.

Cable's earliest date of release is listed as 07/24/2122, according to the Lane County Jail.

***ORIGINAL STORY***

On November 18, 2021, police contacted James Paul Cable, age 38, of Eugene, at his residence and took him into custody regarding a homicide investigation at the location. During the investigation,  Cable struck a detective, and was later arrested on charges of Murder in the Second Degree and Assault on a Public Safety Officer. The 35-year-old male victim is known to Cable.

The violent crimes unit is continuing to investigate the incident and a crash that occurred, possibly connected to the incident, in the area of East 29th Avenue and Amazon Parkway. Police were called to the crash around 12:30 a.m. The involved vehicle, a 2022 silver four-door Chevrolet Silverado truck with Florida license plate, had crashed in the creek bed, and was found to be associated with Cable.

Eugene, Or. - At 3 a.m. on September 1, Eugene Police received reports of a loud dispute with shots fired outside a home near Royal Avenue and Ruskin Street. Units arrived to find a woman, Haley Leann Mackin , age 23, deceased with gunshot wounds.  Eugene Police Violent Crimes Unit identified Brandon Daniel Smith , age 24, as the suspect. 13-Year-Old Calls 911 on Mother Driving Recklessly

Springfield, Or. - On Monday, August 25, 2024, Springfield Police Department Officers were made aware of a blue Subaru that was being driven recklessly through red lights and traveling eastbound on Beltline towards Springfield.  The Subaru was reported by an 13-year-old juvenile in the vehicle, who had called 911 to report that their mother, Camie Colleen Sorensen , age 43, was driving recklessly and looking for “water to drive into”.  An officer positioned themselves in the Gateway area, in the event that the Subaru entered Springfield. Shortly after, the Subaru passed the officer before briefly yielding at a red light. The vehicle then accelerated away at a high rate of speed as the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop.  The vehicle continued southbound on Pioneer Parkway West, weaving through traffic, and driving dangerously.
