Fatal Head-On Crash Shuts Down Beltline Highway for 8 Hours

EUGENE, Ore. – A deadly three-vehicle collision on State Route 569 (Beltline Highway) near milepost 0 claimed one life and left another driver seriously injured Friday afternoon, November 7, 2025.
Oregon State Police say a westbound Honda Accord driven by Russell Fredrick Moncrief, 52, of Eugene, braked suddenly around 3:15 p.m. A following Chevrolet Silverado, operated by Scott Allen Zipprich, 52, of Elmira, rear-ended the Honda. The impact pushed the Silverado across the center line into the eastbound lanes, where it struck an oncoming Dodge Stratus head-on.
The Dodge driver, Vincent George Canham, 84, of Eugene, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. A passenger in the Dodge, 77-year-old Rolf Bertel Johansson of Sweden, sustained minor injuries and was also taken to the hospital.
Moncrief was uninjured. Zipprich was transported with serious injuries.
The crash closed the highway in both directions for approximately eight hours while the Oregon State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated the scene. The cause remains under investigation.
OSP was assisted by Eugene Fire, Springfield Fire, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
