Eugene Man Arrested After Alleged Attempted Grab and Harassment of Young Woman

EUGENE, Ore. — A 36-year-old registered sex offender was arrested Tuesday morning after a 19-year-old woman reported that he approached her, made comments about her body, and tried to grab her near Bailey Hill Road and West 11th Avenue.
The incident occurred around 11:33 a.m. on March 31 when the victim was walking on Bailey Hill Road. According to the Eugene Police Department, the suspect, identified as Kerry Michael Diamond, began talking to her and making unwanted comments before attempting to grab her.
The woman tried to flag down passing vehicles for help, but they drove past. Diamond continued to follow her. A female pedestrian tried to intervene, but was unsuccessful. A woman driving by with her daughter witnessed the situation, turned around to assist the victim, and caused Diamond to walk away.
The good Samaritan then followed Diamond in her vehicle to track his movements. When she spotted arriving police officers, she flagged them down and directed them to his location. Officers located and arrested Diamond at a tent in the 2900 block of West 11th Avenue.
He was taken into custody without incident and transported to Lane County Jail. Diamond faces charges including Attempted Sex Abuse in the Third Degree, Attempted Harassment, Disorderly Conduct in the Second Degree, and Criminal Trespass in the Second Degree. The EPD case number is 26-04715.

Update: According to Lane County court records, the District Attorney filed only one charge against Diamond: Attempt to Commit a Crime (ORS 161.405), a misdemeanor, with the additional description of Sexual Harassment. The other charges originally listed by police, Attempted Sex Abuse in the Third Degree, Attempted Harassment, Disorderly Conduct in the Second Degree, and Criminal Trespass in the Second Degree, were not filed.

Police noted that Diamond is a registered sex offender and has been the subject of recent calls for service involving similar behavior. Authorities are asking anyone who has had interactions with him to contact the Eugene Police non-emergency line at 541-682-5111. Officials requested that people not use phone numbers from prior cases.
This latest incident adds to Diamond’s history of reported harassment and sex-related offenses in the Eugene area.
