Firefighters Contain Santa Clara House Fire

Eugene, Or. - Eugene Springfield Fire (ESF) responded to house fire in the Santa Clara area Thursday afternoon.   Firefighters were alerted to the fire located at 2899 Stark Street at 4:57 PM, with reports of heavy smoke from the garage area. Ladder 11 from ESF’s Santa Clara station arrived about 4-1/2 minutes after the call to find heavy smoke from the garage with fire extending to the attic space. Crews Respond to Overnight Fire at The Public House Pub Restaurant

Springfield, Or. -  Eugene Springfield Fire responded to a fire at the Public House a popular pub and restaurant incubator in downtown Springfield early Tuesday morning.   A single engine was dispatched for a fire alarm at 3:40 AM.  Upon arrival the crew worked to survey the building for access and signs of fire.  Upon entering the building and encountering smoke a full fire response was requested.  The crews located a fire in the kitchen area that was slowed by an activated fire sprinkler.   There was no significant damage to the structure and crews worked to clear smoke and water while the Fire Marshal’s began their investigation.  News Release from Eugene Springfield Fire Posted on FlashAlert: May 7th, 2024 5:38 AM Please help keep independent journalism alive with a donation to my Venmo: @Michael-Weber-379 (last 4 of my phone number is: 0825)

Man Arrested after Trying to Break into ATMs

Eugene, Or. -  At around 2:29 a.m. on April 30, Eugene Police were notified of a burglary in progress at 13th Avenue Market, 410 W. 13th Avenue.  When they arrived at the store, they spotted the suspect through the front windows and saw he was trying to break into an ATM. The suspect became aware police had arrived and went into hiding.   Along with officers, there was a K9 unit and an officer operating a drone. The drone footage helped officers safely check inside and figure out where the suspect was hiding, locked in a bathroom in the back of the store. After several attempts failed to get him to come out using commands, officers deployed OC into the bathroom and the suspect came out.  Officers took him safely into custody. Eugene, Or. - At 4:08 p.m. on April 30, multiple Eugene Police officers and Eugene Springfield Fire responded in emergency mode to a reported multiple-vehicle crash, with one vehicle going through a restaurant’s patio seating. click to enlarge After an investigation, EPD officers determined a man in his 50s was driving his Chevrolet C2500 pickup south on Willamette Street near E. 15th Avenue and collided with the back of one car and then collided immediately after that with another car. He then drove without braking about a block and went through a wooden, outdoor patio-seating area of Bar Purlieu, then continued another block south before coming to a stop. When police officers checked with the driver (including a drug recognition expert), there were no signs of impairment and the driver reported he panicked and confused the brake and accelerator pedals.  He was cited for Careless Driving and EPD submitted a DMV re-test form to ascertain his driving ability. Officer Involved Shooting on I-5 Update

Tangent, Or. - On Sunday, April 28, 2024 at approximately 6:25p.m., Linn County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police were involved in an officer involved shooting on I-5 near exit 226, south of Tangent. Earlier in the afternoon, at approximately 3:00 p.m., two suspects, Cameron James Bielman , age 30 and Yasmina Destinee Teal , age 30, both of Anacortes, Washington were involved in a shooting in Coburg, Or. This shooting critically injured one male. The two suspects fled the area and allegedly stole a black Honda Civic.  Three hours later, at approximately 6:00 p.m., the Honda and suspects were located by Lane County Deputies and Oregon State Troopers and a high-speed pursuit began. Linn County Deputies joined the pursuit. The vehicle proceeded northbound on I-5 from exit 209 where spike strips were successfully deployed, and the vehicle slowed. Tillamook County Fatal Crash Claims Cottage Grove Woman's Life

Tillamook County, Ore. 27 Apr. 24- On Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 4:55 p.m., Oregon State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash on Hwy 101, near milepost 39, in Tillamook County. The preliminary investigation indicated a northbound Dodge Charger, operated by Ellis Miller Heine (56) of Cottage Grove, attempted to pass another vehicle and lost control. The Dodge slid across the northbound lane and into the ditch at highway speeds before striking a tree. The operator of the Dodge (Ellis Heine) was seriously injured and transported to a local hospital. A passenger in the Dodge, Rhonda Sue Heine (55) of Cottage Grove, was declared deceased at the scene. The cause of the crash is under investigation. OSP was assisted by the Tillamook County Sheriff's Office and Nehalem Bay Fire. Cinnamon Ave. Shooter Identified Charged with Manslaughter

Eugene, Or. - The female victim in this case passed away from her injuries.  Her identity is being withheld at this time.  Our deepest condolences go out to the victim’s family and friends. Detectives identified the suspect as Izyk Paul Bartlett , 20, of Eugene.  He was lodged in the Lane County Jail this evening on charges of Manslaughter in the First Degree, Assault in the Second Degree, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.  The investigation is ongoing.   The Lane County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Eugene Police Department, Coburg Police Department, Junction City Police Department, and Oregon State Police for their assistance on this case.   Bartlett was arrested in February of this year for another shooting incident.
