Eugene, Or. - The female victim in this case passed away from her injuries.  Her identity is being withheld at this time.  Our deepest condolences go out to the victim’s family and friends. Detectives identified the suspect as Izyk Paul Bartlett , 20, of Eugene.  He was lodged in the Lane County Jail this evening on charges of Manslaughter in the First Degree, Assault in the Second Degree, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.  The investigation is ongoing.   The Lane County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Eugene Police Department, Coburg Police Department, Junction City Police Department, and Oregon State Police for their assistance on this case.   Bartlett was arrested in February of this year for another shooting incident. UPDATE - Suspect arrested for murder in California 2024 mugshot from Mendocino County Jail Early this morning, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office was advised by the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office in California that they arrested John Jay Kelley on LCSO warrant for Murder in the Second Degree.  He was arrested without incident and the involved vehicle was recovered.  Kelley is being held pending extradition to Oregon.   LCSO would like to thank the Oregon State Police, Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office, and many other partners who assisted on this case.   Kelley's arrest record in Mendocino County California can be seen here .  Junction City, Or. - On April 24th 2024, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a deceased adult female at a residence in the 28000 block of Hwy. 36 south of Junction City. Eugene Or. - Eugene Police Department is investigating a fatal hit-and-run at W. 4th and Polk that occurred on April 15 around 9:10 p.m.  Daylen Amir Austin , age 19, has initially been charged with felony Hit and Run. Eugene, Or. - At 10:29 a.m., Eugene Police went to St. Vincent de Paul, 2890 Chad Drive, after a man recently evicted from one of their properties called and reported he was enroute to the Chad Drive facility with an explosive. After working the call, police determined the threat was not credible. EPD appreciates the caution taken by St. Vincent de Paul in notifying police.  St. Vincent de Paul evacuated the building and sent employees home as a precaution. UPDATE: As a result of this morning’s demonstration, 52 people were arrested for disorderly conduct. Two individuals were additionally charged with conspiracy and theft 2. All suspects are in custody at the Lane County Jail.  Six vehicles were towed from the scene.  Today’s incident required a significant law enforcement response. Eugene, Or. - At 2:05 a.m., this morning, Eugene Police were dispatched to the 2300 block of  Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard regarding a man who was reported to have lit a fire inside his apartment.  Eugene Springfield Fire was also dispatched and extinguished the fire. The man, Edward Paul Slagle , age 59. Officers contacted Slagle and found he had warrants. Eugene, Or. - At 4:58 p.m. on April 7, Eugene Police units responded to a hit and run, where a semi-truck was reported to have struck a Jeep at Crescent Avenue and Coburg Road. The driver is reported to have gotten out of the truck, appeared intoxicated, and left the scene headed east on foot. A Jeep Wrangler had been damaged during the collision at the intersection of Crescent Avenue and Shadow View Drive after the Freightliner semi ran a four-way stop. The driver, later identified as Roger Lavern Dale, age 66, of Winston, also caused damage to a fence, tree, and masonry work in the 3300 block of Arlington Lane. K9 Officer Jake Thomas and Ayk responded to the scene and went to work. The team located Dale hiding behind a trash dumpster in the 2800 block of Crescent Avenue. After an investigation, Dale was arrested and transported to Lane County Jail on charges of DUII, Reckless Driving, and Hit and Run-Property damage. Junction City, Or. - On April 6th at about 3:30 a.m., deputies and a Junction City Police officer responded to the area of Lassen Lane and River Road for a report of a gunshot wound.   One person was injured and transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  The suspects fled immediately after the shooting, which appeared to be a targeted attack by individuals known to each other, and are still outstanding.   Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact the Lane County Sheriff’s Office at 541-682-4150, option 1.  News Release from Lane Co. UPDATE: Today, 4/5/2024, Jaisi Tavin Savath was sentenced to life in the custody of the Oregon State Department of Corrections without the possibility of parole for 25 years. On April 4, he was found guilty at the conclusion of a jury trial of Murder in the Second Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. Eugene, Or. - The jury has found JAISI TAVIN SAVATH guilty of murder in the 2023 brutal shooting death of Stephen Anthony Forrest, age 32, of Eugene. Forrest was an employee of the 711 at 590 E. Broadway, in Eugene, when Savath shot and brutally murdered Forrest. Savath, then left the scene of the crime. Savath turned himself in 4 days later on 9/6/23. Original story here. Savath was also found guilty of felony unlawful use of a firearm. Savath has already plead guilty to the lessor charge of misdemeanor Unlawful Possession of a Firearm on April 1st, 2024. Eugene, Or. - At 9:07 a.m. on April 3, a man entered Banner Bank, 169 W. 6th Avenue, and robbed the bank of cash using a handgun.  He fled in a vehicle and Eugene Police responded quickly with patrol units as well as drones. EPD developed suspect information, including a vehicle and its direction, and aired that to area police agencies.   At 9:25 a.m., Oregon State Police stopped the suspect vehicle going east on Hwy. 58 at milepost 3 and a suspect was taken into custody. Eugene Police is grateful for the fast response by our local agencies. The quick response by everyone helped get an arrest in less than 20 minutes. Springfield, Or. - At around 5:30 p.m. on March 26, Eugene Police Street Crimes Unit served a search warrant for possession and delivery of methamphetamine at Wheeless Trailer Sales, 3560 Main Street, Springfield.  SCU had been investigating a long-time employee , 51-year-old Grant Wayne Wheeless , who lives on the property in an attached apartment. EMLPOYEE During the warrant service SCU located more than 3.4 pounds of suspected methamphetamine, more than $11,000 in cash, five operational digital scales with crystal residue on the weighing surface, various-sized unused plastic baggies (Packaging), and a stolen rifle.Wheeless was charged with Manufacture, Delivery, and Possession of Methamphetamine (Commercial Drug Offense) and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Eugene, OR.  Eugene Springfield Fire was on scene of an industrial fire at Weyerhaeuser Trus Joist located at 195N Bertelsen Rd in West Eugene. F irefighters were alerted to the fire at 7:08 PM on Sunday. The first arriving engine from the Danebo Station received reports of  press19 on fire inside the facility. Crews quickly extinguished the fire before it extended to the building or other equipment. Staff from the facility worked to keep the fire in check before fire crews arrived. Eugene, OR. - Eugene Springfield Fire is on scene of an apartment fire at Redwood Park Apartments located At 4131 w 18th Ave in West Eugene.  Firefighters were alerted to the fire at 3:15 PM on Sunday. The first arriving engine from the Bailey Hill Station received reports of a fire on the back side of an 8-unit apartment building spreading up the building and into the siding.  Crews quickly extinguished the fire before it entered the into the living areas where there were several residents at home, unaware of the fire. Springfield, Or. - On March 30th, 2024 at approximately 8:27pm a Springfield Police Department Officer was parked in a patrol vehicle with the overhead lights activated to block off traffic while Springfield Utility Board staff members were working to repair a water main break that had caused a large amount of flooding near the intersection of Mohawk Blvd and Centennial Blvd.  The officer was sitting in the vehicle with his K9 partner in the rear kennel area of the vehicle when a pick-up truck went through the intersection at approximately 40mph and crashed into the officer’s vehicle. The officer’s airbags deployed, and the vehicle sustained significant damage.  The officer was transported to the hospital via ambulance and was later released. The officer’s K9 partner was evaluated for injuries and appeared to be unhurt.  The driver of the pickup was identified as John Manuel Wilson, who witnesses stated appeared to be looking down before traveling through the intersection. Eugene, OR.  Eugene Springfield Fire is on scene of a fuel spill at the Fred Meyer fuel depot at 60 Division Avenue in Eugene.   Crews are mitigating the spill which occurred as a result of a vehicle fuel tank that had been drilled for fuel theft.  The owner was unaware that the hole existed and a large volume fuel spilled. Further investigation determined the fuel hose had separated from the tank. Eugene OR.  Eugene Springfield Fire (ESF) responded to a house fire at 153 Swain Ln in the North Santa Clara area early Sunday morning.   Crews were notified of a possible fire at 12:06 AM on 3/31. Upon arrival, ESF Ladder 11 found 40 foot flame lengths from multiple trees with a mobile home catching fire. Ladder 11 began to attack the fire, with support from additional ESF and Lane Fire Authority (LFA) crews.  Firefighters were able to assure the resident and her son were not at home at the time of the fire, and performed a primary search of the residence as they conducted fire attack operations and protected exposures. Crews used quick thinking to cut through an adjacent fence and stretch hose from a hydrant on a neighboring property to get water.   The fire was placed under control, and there were no injuries immediately reported.  LFA is performing an investigation to determine the cause as the fire occurred at a property within their contracted jurisdiction.   News Release from E

Springfield, Or. - On March 24th, 2024 around 1239 AM Officers with the Springfield Police Department responded to the 6900 Block of Jessica Drive regarding an incident where gunshots had been fired into a house.  When Officers responded they were met with several subjects fleeing a house party. It was learned what initially started as a small house gathering turned into a large party where uninvited individuals arrived.    The uninvited individuals were contacted by the residents and asked to leave, leading to a disagreement. The uninvited individuals exited the party but returned and fired multiple handgun rounds into the home and nearby property before fleeing the location. At this time, there are no reports of any injuries. Springfield Detectives were called to the scene to assist with interviews and evidence collection and will be continuing the investigation. Eugene, Or. - At around 6:12 p.m. on March 22, a Eugene Police officer spotted a stolen Chevy Silverado in the Lowes Parking lot, 3595 W. 11th.  Acree - 2021 He called other officer to help approach it in their vehicles (no emergency lights activated). As soon as the driver, later identified as Jeremy James Acree , age 46, of Winchester, spotted the officers he began recklessly driving southwest through the parking lot at a high rate of speed. Acree drove over planter boxes, and he was putting the public in immediate danger. A forcible stop was attempted, but Acree continued driving towards the Carl's Jr. drive-thru where he drove over the embankment and crashed. He fled on foot across W. 11th and officers caught up to him behind Richard's Deli, where he resisted being taken into custody. Lane County, Or. - On 3/24/2024 Lane County Sheriff’s Office was involved in a pursuit with a menacing subject. Deputies were on the lookout for 56-year-old Walter Edward Boss of Junction City yesterday after he made threats to go to a local police station and shoot law enforcement officers.   Boss was observed in his vehicle by a deputy near the town of Coburg.  Boss pulled behind the lone deputy’s vehicle and began chasing him.  The deputy was able to safely disengage and wait for backup.  Other units, including troopers with the Oregon State Police, responded to the area and located Boss still driving in his vehicle at which time a pursuit ensued.   During the pursuit, Boss pointed a rifle and laser at responding personnel. The rifle was later discovered to be an airsoft rifle that resembles a real rifle. The pursuit ended on Powerline Road where Boss got out of his vehicle with the rifle that had the laser attached.  After attempting to injure himself, deputies were able to take B

Eugene, Or. - On March 24th, 2024, as the Clark County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) Major Crimes Unit (MCU) detectives continued their murder investigation, a tip was provided to law enforcement about the potential murder suspect.  Darrell Eugene Riley 2019 The investigation led to the arrest of Darrell Eugene Riley , age 55, by the Eugene Police Department in Eugene, Oregon. Darrell is being held on a Temporary Felony Warrant for Murder in the First Degree, requested by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.  He will remain in custody in Oregon while the Clark County Prosecutor’s Office seeks extradition. The stolen Ford F-150 from this incident was recovered in a rural part of Benton County, Oregon. The vehicle was damaged by fire, which appears likely to have been intentionally set to destroy evidence of the murder. Eugene, Or. - Eugene Police Property and Financial Crimes Unit detectives have been working a series of armed robberies at Everyone’s Market, 1245 Echo Hollow Road . This afternoon, with the help of Eugene Police SWAT, a suspect in the case has been arrested. EPD units followed suspect Lonnie Edward Huddleston , age 36, and took him into custody at Fred Meyer, 3333 W. 11th, using a distraction device. They subsequently served a search warrant in the 3600 block of Marshall related to the robberies. Huddleston has been transported to Lane County Jail on six counts of Robbery in the First Degree.
