Male Arrested in Pleasant Hill After Assaulting Female and Deputies



Pleasant Hill, Or. - On June 27th at about 5 p.m., Lane County Sheriff’s deputies and Oregon State Police troopers responded to the 85100 block of Winding Way, Pleasant Hill, after a juvenile told a neighbor someone was trying to kill their mother. 

When deputies arrived on scene, a female was found unconscious in the yard with injuries. A nearby male, Dillion Shane Simmons, 31, fought with deputies when told he was under arrest.  Once Simmons was in custody, he and the female were transported to the hospital for treatment. 

A Lane County Sheriff’s sergeant also responded to an area hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the arrest. 

Simmons was lodged in the Lane County Jail for Assault in the 3rd Degree, Assault in the 4th Degree (APA), Unlawful Use of a Weapon, two counts of Menacing, and Resisting Arrest.

Three Arrested After Year-Long Noti Murder Investigation

Noti, Ore. - On November 20, 2022 a body was located in the forest by hunters. The Lane County Sheriff’s Office detectives worked diligently on finding any leads on the case. The body was later identified as 37-year-old Sean Lee Wilkins. With help from community members tips and hard work from the detectives they were able to gather probable cause on the murder suspects. On November 13, 2023 A search warrant was served and with the assistance from the Lane County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team three individuals were arrested in conjunction with the search warrant in the Noti area.  Photo by: Esther Bullock-Michelson The three individuals arrested were Timothy Bryce Shafer, Timothy Leon Shafer and Anna Mariateres Glica. Lane County Jail Inmate Death Investigation

Eugene, Ore. - On 08/24/2023 at 2:00pm, a Lane County Sheriff’s Deputy working within a housing unit at the Lane County Jail discovered a male adult-in-custody (AIC) unresponsive in his cell during hourly checks.  His last check had been completed at 1:00pm.  The male had a ligature tied around his neck and was unconscious and not breathing. The deputy removed the ligature and immediately began life-saving efforts. Emergency medical assistance arrived and despite continued life-saving efforts the male did not survive.  Detectives along with the Lane County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene and began an investigation.  All indications at this point are that the male died as the result of apparent suicide.  Investigators with the Medical Examiner’s Office are continuing the investigation into the official cause of his death.  A post-mortem examination is scheduled for today.  Cates - 2021 mugshot The male is identified as 33-year-old Joshua William Cates .  Cates was conv
