Fire Crews Extinguish Trus Joist Press Fire

Eugene, OR.  Eugene Springfield Fire was on scene of an industrial fire at Weyerhaeuser Trus Joist located at 195N Bertelsen Rd in West Eugene. F irefighters were alerted to the fire at 7:08 PM on Sunday. The first arriving engine from the Danebo Station received reports of  press19 on fire inside the facility. Crews quickly extinguished the fire before it extended to the building or other equipment. Staff from the facility worked to keep the fire in check before fire crews arrived. Fire Crews Keep West Eugene Apartment Fire Small

Eugene, OR. - Eugene Springfield Fire is on scene of an apartment fire at Redwood Park Apartments located At 4131 w 18th Ave in West Eugene.  Firefighters were alerted to the fire at 3:15 PM on Sunday. The first arriving engine from the Bailey Hill Station received reports of a fire on the back side of an 8-unit apartment building spreading up the building and into the siding.  Crews quickly extinguished the fire before it entered the into the living areas where there were several residents at home, unaware of the fire. Springfield Police Vehicle Struck - Driver Charged With Reckless Driving

Springfield, Or. - On March 30th, 2024 at approximately 8:27pm a Springfield Police Department Officer was parked in a patrol vehicle with the overhead lights activated to block off traffic while Springfield Utility Board staff members were working to repair a water main break that had caused a large amount of flooding near the intersection of Mohawk Blvd and Centennial Blvd.  The officer was sitting in the vehicle with his K9 partner in the rear kennel area of the vehicle when a pick-up truck went through the intersection at approximately 40mph and crashed into the officer’s vehicle. The officer’s airbags deployed, and the vehicle sustained significant damage.  The officer was transported to the hospital via ambulance and was later released. Fuel Tank Malfunction Causes Large Volume Fuel Spill

Eugene, OR.  Eugene Springfield Fire is on scene of a fuel spill at the Fred Meyer fuel depot at 60 Division Avenue in Eugene.   Crews are mitigating the spill which occurred as a result of a vehicle fuel tank that had been drilled for fuel theft.  The owner was unaware that the hole existed and a large volume fuel spilled. Further investigation determined the fuel hose had separated from the tank. Firefighters Tackle Early Morning House Fire In Santa Clara

Eugene OR.  Eugene Springfield Fire (ESF) responded to a house fire at 153 Swain Ln in the North Santa Clara area early Sunday morning.   Crews were notified of a possible fire at 12:06 AM on 3/31. Upon arrival, ESF Ladder 11 found 40 foot flame lengths from multiple trees with a mobile home catching fire. Ladder 11 began to attack the fire, with support from additional ESF and Lane Fire Authority (LFA) crews.  Firefighters were able to assure the resident and her son were not at home at the time of the fire, and performed a primary search of the residence as they conducted fire attack operations and protected exposures. Crews used quick thinking to cut through an adjacent fence and stretch hose from a hydrant on a neighboring property to get water.   The fire was placed under control, and there were no injuries immediately reported.  LFA is performing an investigation to determine the cause as the fire occurred at a property within their contracted jurisdiction.   News Release from E

Jessica Drive Party Ends with Gunfire

Springfield, Or. - On March 24th, 2024 around 1239 AM Officers with the Springfield Police Department responded to the 6900 Block of Jessica Drive regarding an incident where gunshots had been fired into a house.  When Officers responded they were met with several subjects fleeing a house party. It was learned what initially started as a small house gathering turned into a large party where uninvited individuals arrived.    The uninvited individuals were contacted by the residents and asked to leave, leading to a disagreement. The uninvited individuals exited the party but returned and fired multiple handgun rounds into the home and nearby property before fleeing the location. At this time, there are no reports of any injuries. Springfield Detectives were called to the scene to assist with interviews and evidence collection and will be continuing the investigation. Man Driving Stolen Truck Crashes and Flees Scene

Eugene, Or. - At around 6:12 p.m. on March 22, a Eugene Police officer spotted a stolen Chevy Silverado in the Lowes Parking lot, 3595 W. 11th.  Acree - 2021 He called other officer to help approach it in their vehicles (no emergency lights activated). As soon as the driver, later identified as Jeremy James Acree , age 46, of Winchester, spotted the officers he began recklessly driving southwest through the parking lot at a high rate of speed. Acree drove over planter boxes, and he was putting the public in immediate danger. A forcible stop was attempted, but Acree continued driving towards the Carl's Jr. drive-thru where he drove over the embankment and crashed. He fled on foot across W. 11th and officers caught up to him behind Richard's Deli, where he resisted being taken into custody. Lane County Sheriff's Office Involved in Pursuit

Lane County, Or. - On 3/24/2024 Lane County Sheriff’s Office was involved in a pursuit with a menacing subject. Deputies were on the lookout for 56-year-old Walter Edward Boss of Junction City yesterday after he made threats to go to a local police station and shoot law enforcement officers.   Boss was observed in his vehicle by a deputy near the town of Coburg.  Boss pulled behind the lone deputy’s vehicle and began chasing him.  The deputy was able to safely disengage and wait for backup.  Other units, including troopers with the Oregon State Police, responded to the area and located Boss still driving in his vehicle at which time a pursuit ensued.   During the pursuit, Boss pointed a rifle and laser at responding personnel. The rifle was later discovered to be an airsoft rifle that resembles a real rifle. The pursuit ended on Powerline Road where Boss got out of his vehicle with the rifle that had the laser attached.  After attempting to injure himself, deputies were able to take B

Washington Man Accused of Murder Arrested in Eugene

Eugene, Or. - On March 24th, 2024, as the Clark County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) Major Crimes Unit (MCU) detectives continued their murder investigation, a tip was provided to law enforcement about the potential murder suspect.  Darrell Eugene Riley 2019 The investigation led to the arrest of Darrell Eugene Riley , age 55, by the Eugene Police Department in Eugene, Oregon. Darrell is being held on a Temporary Felony Warrant for Murder in the First Degree, requested by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.  He will remain in custody in Oregon while the Clark County Prosecutor’s Office seeks extradition. The stolen Ford F-150 from this incident was recovered in a rural part of Benton County, Oregon. The vehicle was damaged by fire, which appears likely to have been intentionally set to destroy evidence of the murder. Everyone's Market Armed Robbery Suspect Arrested

Eugene, Or. - Eugene Police Property and Financial Crimes Unit detectives have been working a series of armed robberies at Everyone’s Market, 1245 Echo Hollow Road . This afternoon, with the help of Eugene Police SWAT, a suspect in the case has been arrested. EPD units followed suspect Lonnie Edward Huddleston , age 36, and took him into custody at Fred Meyer, 3333 W. 11th, using a distraction device. They subsequently served a search warrant in the 3600 block of Marshall related to the robberies. Huddleston has been transported to Lane County Jail on six counts of Robbery in the First Degree. West Eugene RV Fire Extinguished

Crews Extinguish Car Fire At W. Eugene Home Depot

Crews Extinguish Equipment Fire At Action Rent-All

Eugene, Or.  - At 12:54 AM on March 13th, several passing motorists reported an unknown fire at Action Rent-All located at 151 River Ave in Eugene.  Eugene Springfield Fire responded with 2 engines, 1 truck, and 1 chief, finding a scissor lift fully engulfed. Several other pieces of equipment were threatened in the area of the fire, but were not damaged. During extinguishment, crews also discovered a propane tank off gassing. Crews extinguished the lift fire and allowed the propane to cool to a point it was no longer a hazard.  Firefighters worked to prevent toxic run secondary to the fire from entering the storm drain. The ESF fire marshals office is investigating the fire. There were no injuries reported. Man Convicted and Sentenced for Apartment Arson

Eugene Or. - A Lane County Jury unanimously found 49-year-old Avery Jerome Boyle , guilty of Arson in the First Degree, Assault in the Second Degree, and a multitude of other counts. The Arson and the Assault charges were related, but occurred on different days and include separate victims. He was sentenced to 240 months ( 20 years ) in prison for the case, which was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Erik Knapp. ***Original story - background*** The fire, on August 2, 2022, at 294 Bethel , was described as “devasting,” It was a large house turned into a fourplex, and was operated by Shelter Care. Some employees working next door at Hazelnut Drying Building, saved a man in a wheelchair, who was on the first floor and had to be pulled out his window.  These same two heroes also used a tall ladder to evacuate two women who were trapped in their upstairs apartments. Reckless Driver Eludes Deputies, Arrested Following Investigation

Lane County, Or. - On February 29th, a Lane County Sheriff’s deputy assigned to the McKenzie District observed a white Mercedes SUV driving at a high rate of speed west on McKenzie Highway.   The deputy attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle only accelerated.  Due to the high rate of speed, the deputy continued following, but did not attempt to catch up.  Deputies, Springfield Police Officers, and a Eugene Police Officer who was passing through the area all responded.  Spike strips were placed on possible roads the suspect could take.   A deputy soon observed the vehicle driving west on Camp Creek Road, still at a very high rate of speed.  He deployed the spikes, disabling the front two tires of the vehicle.  An area resident then called in the suspect vehicle driving on front rims on a side street.  Deputies searched the area, but due in part to the time delay, were unable to locate the driver.  They were, however, able to identify him as Robert Fraser Stewart of Springfield.   St

Pedestrian vs Vehicle Fatal Crash on Hwy. 99 Under Investigation

Eugene, Or. -  At 9:07 p.m. on March 5, callers reported a pedestrian/vehicle crash in the roadway at 2222 Hwy. 99 N.  The pedestrian died on scene and the roadway was shut down to traffic for a crash investigation by EPD’s Major Collision Investigation team.   The road reopened at 12:48 a.m. on March 6. The vehicle’s driver stayed on scene and cooperated with police.  The pedestrian’s identity is being withheld until his family can be notified. Armed Robbery Suspect of Everyone's Market on River Road Sought

Eugene, Or. - On March 3rd at about 9:40 p.m., deputies responded to an armed robbery at Everyone’s Market, 3901 River Road.   The suspect entered the store, pointed a silver pistol at the clerk, and demanded cash from the register.  As deputies, troopers, and officers responded, an area resident reported a vehicle driving 90 miles per hour west on Lynnbrook Drive, just across the street from the market.   The suspect is described as a white male, mid 30s with blonde hair. Man Arrested After Shooting in 2200 Block of Roosevelt Blvd

EUGENE, Or. - At 9:08 p.m. on March 4, a man opened the door to a residence in the 2200 block of Roosevelt Blvd  demanding to see his wife, who was not there.  The resident, later identified as Travis Scott Parker , age 52, was armed and chased the 62-year-old intruder away. The man retreated but continued to yell for his wife. He eventually walked away to a bus stop, but Parker followed him and the two continued a verbal altercation.  The victim is reported to have punched Parker, knocking him to the ground, with Parker subsequently shooting the victim. A bystander intervened and was able to get the gun from Parker. The two involved men did not know each other.   Eugene Police and Eugene Springfield Fire responded. ESF transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Store Employee and Bystander Detain Man after Firearm Theft

Eugene, Or. - Around 6:30 p.m. on March 2, Eugene Police were called to Mazama’s, at 1055 Bailey Hill Road, in Eugene, regarding the theft of a firearm. A man is reported to have arrived on foot and after asking to see a handgun that was for sale, took possession of it to examine it, but fled out the front door with the firearm. Foster - 2021  A store employee and a bystander who was in the parking lot, Foster being detained both ran after the suspect, 27-year-old Shawn Michael Foster . They took Foster to the ground, safely detained him in flex cuffs, and regained possession of the firearm.  Police arrived and after investigating, transported Foster to Lane County Jail on charges including Theft in the First Degree, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Case 24-03178 Foster is also being help on 2 unrelated older charges, felony DUII, and misdemeanor reckless driving. Suspect in Feb. Hit and Run at Lane County Disabilities Services Arrested

Springfield, Or. - At 10:25 a.m., on February 16, a Eugene Police officer responded to a hit and run report at Lane County Disabilities Services , 2513 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.  A female suspect had hit a Lane County Toyota Prius and a personal vehicle (Subaru Baja) parked at the location. She left the scene in a Toyota Camry.  The investigating officer gathered the information provided on the vehicle and suspect and conducted further investigation, identifying Crystal Joyce Standish , age 45.  Standish was contacted by Springfield Police on March 4 at 3:09 a.m. and the vehicle she was driving was listed as stolen out of Eugene, with an Attempt to Locate by EPD for the hit and run. The vehicle had been reported stolen by a friend of Standish on February 29 at 2:55 p.m. Standish was charged with two counts of Hit and Run and two counts of Criminal Mischief in the Second degree for the hit and run case 24-02340, and Unlawful Use Vehicle for 24-03063 when lodged by SPD. EPD Investigating Fatal Vehicle-Train Crash

Eugene, Or. - At approximately 7:50 a.m., today, March 3, an Oregon State Trooper stopped to contact the driver of a potentially disabled/illegally parked vehicle near the north end of the Eugene Airport on Greenhill Road.  During the contact, the trooper discovered the driver had been out of compliance with sex offender registration since 2019. When other troopers arrived to arrest the suspect, he didn’t comply, but fled in his vehicle. The OSP troopers lost sight of the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect was going eastbound and attempted to cross the railroad tracks at Meadowview Road, just west of Prairie Road, but collided with an oncoming, northbound Amtrack train. The suspect is deceased, and Lane County Medical Examiner responded. Eugene Police Major Collision Investigation team also responded to the scene to investigate the crash. Lane County Man Convicted of Attempted Murder

Eugene, Or. - On February 28th, 2024, Jason Scott Page pled guilty to Attempted Murder, Assault in the First Degree, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver, and Reckless Driving.  Page was sentenced to 10 years in the Oregon Department of Corrections. ***Original story*** In June 2023, Lane County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and Detectives followed an anonymous tip to the 23000 block of Green Creek Road , Elmira.  The tip indicated Jason Scott Page was at a residence in the area. Page was wanted by LCSO for several crimes including Attempted Murder. A sergeant observed Page leaving in a vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Page fled the stop on foot before shooting at deputies. After a brief exchange of gunfire, Page was taken into custody unharmed. News Release from Lane Co.
