Man Arrested After Violating Restraining Order, Damaging Elderly Couple’s Home

Eugene, Or. -- Eugene police arrested a man Wednesday afternoon after he allegedly violated a restraining order and extensively damaged an elderly couple’s home on the 3500 block of Korbel Street.

At about 12:41 p.m. on Oct. 21, a caller reported that Eric Peterson was outside a residence he was prohibited from approaching under a restraining order issued earlier this month. A neighbor photographed Peterson in the driveway, and the caller said he was also seen near the mailbox. Two other witnesses reported seeing him enter the home.

Officers responded and entered the residence with the caller. Inside, they found the home in extreme disarray, with broken doors, flooring, safes and other household items. Landscaping outside had also been destroyed and cut down.

Peterson later called dispatch, saying he was at the property to retrieve a firearm. He agreed to meet officers at a nearby park, where he was taken into custody.

He was booked into Lane County Jail on charges of violation of a restraining order, first-degree criminal mischief and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The case is being investigated under EPD case No. 2616866.
