SCU Search Warrant Yields Stolen Firearms, Laptop, Man Arrested

Eugene, Ore. - On June 27, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office received a burglary report in which firearms and a laptop computer were stolen from a residence. A neighbor happened to capture images of the suspect on a video surveillance system and provided those images to investigating deputies. 

 On June 28, Eugene Police Street Crimes Unit received information leading to an identification of a suspect and the location of the stolen firearms. Within a matter of hours, SCU wrote and applied for a search warrant that was granted by a judge and then subsequently served by EPD SWAT. Two of the three firearms and the laptop computer were recovered. During the service of the search warrant around 8:56 p.m. on June 28, the primary suspect, 51-year-old Eugene resident Mitchell David Sweat, was arrested and lodged at the Lane County Jail by LCSO deputies on the charges, below.
