Man Arrested for Kidnap, Assault

Eugene, Ore. -At 10:15 p.m. on June 23, Central Lane 911 received a call from the public about a woman being assaulted by a man in a parking lot in the 800 block of Franklin Boulevard.

The caller was reporting the man left in a GMC Yukon with a young child inside. The woman had a restraining order against the man, identified as Mario Lynn Massey, age 35. He was also not allowed to be unsupervised with the child. Eugene Police officers responded and flooded the area but where not able to locate Massey and the vehicle.

They located the female victim and spent the better part of two hours checking neighbor hoods, parking lots, parks, and many other locations.

Eugene Police Violent Crimes Unit was notified, and two detectives responded to assist EPD Patrol. The primary responding patrol officer authored an ‘attempt to locate’ for Massey and officers were continuing to search. The child was located at an apartment, where she had been dropped off by the suspect in the care of a friend.

On June 27, Eugene Police responded to a disorderly trespasser call in the 400 block of Willamette Street. The trespasser had departed the location prior to police arrival. Officers did an area check and learned Massey had purchased a ticket for an Amtrak departure. The train's first stop was Albany. Several Albany Police officers responded and searched the train.

It was determined Massey had not boarded. An attentive EPD officer noted CAHOOTS was out with a suspicious subject call at E. 3rd Avenue and High Street, and the subject matched Massey's description. That officer responded and took Massey into custody without incident at 10:18 p.m., June 27.

Massey was transported to Lane County Jail on charges including Violation of a Restraining Order, Assault in the Fourth Degree APA (Abuse Prevention Act), Coercion, Custodial Interference in the Second Degree, and Kidnapping in the First Degree.
