Suspect Apprehended After Fatal Vehicle Vs. Pedestrian Accident





Springfield, Ore. - On 06/25/2023 at 01:49 AM, 911 received a call regarding a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision in the 3000 block of Main St. The vehicle had been traveling westbound on Main St, with the pedestrian skateboarding westbound in the bicycle lane. The pedestrian was fatally injured at the scene of the crash.

INVOLVED SUSPECT:

Grijalva-Ortiz, Wilber Alexander 21 Year-Old Male | Springfield, OR

NARRATIVE OF INCIDENT:

On 06/25/2023 at 01:49 AM, 911 received a call regarding a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision in the 3000 block of Main St. The vehicle had been traveling westbound on Main St, with the pedestrian skateboarding westbound in the bicycle lane. The pedestrian was fatally injured at the scene of the crash.

A responding SPD Officer observed a dark colored sedan matching the description of the fleeing vehicle and conducted a traffic stop with the driver and was able to determine that the vehicle had in fact been involved. At this point, the driver was apprehended without incident.   

Westbound Main St. was closed for more than four hours following the crash while the Springfield Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) collected evidence and processed the scene of the crash.
