K9 Efforts Result in Seizure of Fentanyl

Springfield, Ore. - On June 16th, K9 Cash and his handler were dispatched to a call of a suspicious package having been received by a local business.

Upon further review of the item, K9 Cash performed an inspection of the package to determine if it contained any illegal substances.

At that time, K9 Cash was able to indicate that there were illegal substances within the item. Further inspection revealed that two bundles were hidden within the package, ultimately K9 Cash alerted that the objects contained illegal substances. The bundles were unwrapped, exposing what was determined to be fentanyl in both powder and packed brick forms.

The fentanyl found in the package weighed roughly 500 grams (over a pound) in total which holds an estimated value of at least $50,000 with just two milligrams of the substance considered a potentially lethal dose. Fentanyl in this form is most commonly used in the production of counterfeit pills and illegal drugs bound for distribution locally.
