ESF Firefighters Handle Several Critical Calls Saturday

Eugene, OR. Eugene Springfield Fire responded to simultaneous critical calls Saturday afternoon, including a car fire, and a water rescue.

At 1:54 Pm on Saturday June 29th, crews were dispatched to a non-injury car accident with a car on the ditch on fire.  Crews arrived to find the car burning and spreading to the grass.  The fire was contained to a small area.

At 2:01 PM, Boats 5&6, Engine 14, Medic, 4 and Battalion Chiefs 1&3 were dispatched to a water rescue on the McKenzie River between Hayden Bridge and Harvest Landing in Springfield.  Callers reported an unconscious female floating in the river after falling out of her raft.  Boat 5 happened to be training in the vicinity call and was quick to arrive.

Bystanders had gotten the female to the shore and initiated CPR.  Boat 5 quickly loaded the patient on their boat and continued CPR to the nearest boat launch where Engine 14 was waiting to begin advanced life support.  Crews successfully resuscitated the patient and she was transported in life threating condition to RiverBend hospital.
