Eugene Police Shoot Armed Man Wielding Shotgun
EUGENE, Ore. — Eugene Police officers shot and wounded a 40-year-old man armed with a shotgun after he was reported menacing people in the 1400 block of Railroad Boulevard on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident began at 12:32 p.m. when 911 callers alerted authorities to the armed suspect. Additional reports described him threatening others with the weapon. Officers arrived in emergency response mode, and at 12:50 p.m., shots were fired, leaving the suspect down at 160 Madison St.
Police provided immediate medical aid, and Eugene Springfield Fire personnel responded once the scene was secured.
The man, whose injuries appear non-life-threatening, was transported to a local hospital. A shotgun was recovered at the scene.
The Lane County Interagency Deadly Force Investigation Team (IDFIT) has taken over the probe into the officer-involved shooting. Under Oregon's Senate Bill 111, enacted in 2007 and adopted locally in 2008, such investigations are handled by independent agencies to ensure fairness and transparency. All Eugene Police deadly force cases since then have followed this protocol, with findings referred to the Lane County District Attorney's Office for review.
