EUGENE, Ore. — A 38-year-old man, Frank Vincent Nelson , was arrested on May 26 by Eugene Police Violent Crimes Unit detectives after attempting to meet a child under 16 for sexual relations. Nelson, who had been communicating online with someone he believed to be a minor, was apprehended when he arrived at a planned meeting spot in Eugene. His vehicle was pinned in, and he was taken into custody without incident. This was not Nelson’s first attempt; he had previously tried to travel to Eugene for the same purpose but was arrested by another agency for an unrelated crime. After his release, he resumed communication and arranged another meeting, leading to his arrest. EUGENE, Ore. — On May 29, 2025, at 11:39 a.m., Eugene Police responded to a disturbance involving a group of juveniles at Hawaiian Time restaurant on 2080 River Road . Witnesses reported that one juvenile was armed with a firearm and fired shots into the air, prompting a swift response from multiple police units. Nearby North Eugene High School was notified and advised to implement security measures as a precaution while police searched for suspects. Springfield, OR – On May 28, 2025, Mario Joel Moreno-Soto , a 31-year-old Springfield resident, was found guilty of multiple charges stemming from an armed robbery attempt at the Get N Go Market on November 11, 2024. The sentencing marks the conclusion of a case that began when Springfield Police Officers responded to the market at 150 28th Street , where Moreno-Soto allegedly threatened a clerk with a firearm. According to the original Springfield Police Department press release, Moreno-Soto entered the market at 4:56 PM on November 11, 2024, dressed in a black hooded sweatshirt jacket, a black COVID-19 style mask, black sweatpants, and black Crocs-style shoes. He brandished a small firearm, demanded money from the front counter clerk, and fled on foot after collecting the cash.
