Eugene Couple Counterfeiting Currency Arrested for Forgery



Eugene, Or. - On February 29, Eugene Police’s Street Crimes Unit served a search warrant with EPD SWAT, Drones, and CNT teams in the 3600 block of West 13th Avenue. 

The search warrant was the culmination of a forgery investigation and evidence seized included forged U.S. currency, printers, and ink. Christian Ronald Batchelder, age 31, and Emma Joy Connelly, age 24, both Eugene residents, were arrested and lodged at the Lane County Jail on charges of Forgery in the First Degree. Betchelder also has the charge of 144.350 - PAROLE VIOLATION for assault on a PO.

Eugene, Or. - At 3 a.m. on September 1, Eugene Police received reports of a loud dispute with shots fired outside a home near Royal Avenue and Ruskin Street. Units arrived to find a woman, Haley Leann Mackin , age 23, deceased with gunshot wounds.  Eugene Police Violent Crimes Unit identified Brandon Daniel Smith , age 24, as the suspect. Mackin and Smith had previously been in a relationship. Mackin was recently granted an order of protection against Smith.  Smith was taken into custody by EPD at 5:05 a.m. at  4th Avenue and Pearl Street . Eugene Police thanks Springfield Police and Lane County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance during the apprehension. Smith had plead guilty to, and been convicted of, assault in the forth degree misdemeanor DV against Mackin earlier this year on 04/10/2024. Case # 24CR11412. Eugene Woman Wanted With Nationwide Full-Extradition Warrant

Eugene, Or. - Eugene Police Street Crimes Unit is asking for the public’s help in locating a suspect, Shayla Kaylawray Bennett , age 29.   Bennett has a nationwide, full-extradition warrant. She is wanted for Failure to Appear for Child Neglect in the First Degree, Possession of Heroin -  Commercial Offense, and other controlled substance possession offenses. 13-Year-Old Calls 911 on Mother Driving Recklessly

Springfield, Or. - On Monday, August 25, 2024, Springfield Police Department Officers were made aware of a blue Subaru that was being driven recklessly through red lights and traveling eastbound on Beltline towards Springfield.  The Subaru was reported by an 13-year-old juvenile in the vehicle, who had called 911 to report that their mother, Camie Colleen Sorensen , age 43, was driving recklessly and looking for “water to drive into”.  An officer positioned themselves in the Gateway area, in the event that the Subaru entered Springfield. Shortly after, the Subaru passed the officer before briefly yielding at a red light. The vehicle then accelerated away at a high rate of speed as the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop.  The vehicle continued southbound on Pioneer Parkway West, weaving through traffic, and driving dangerously.
