Man Arrested After Stealing Truck, Fleeing Police, Ramming Police Vehicle

Eugene, Or. - At 6:19 a.m. on February 28, Eugene Police was dispatched to a call about a Chevrolet Silverado that had just been stolen from a man’s driveway in the 300 block of Wilkie Street.

An officer spotted the stolen truck going eastbound on W. 7th Avenue near Van Buren Street and then several EPD officers responded to the area. The officer who had spotted the vehicle initiated a traffic stop but the driver, later identified as Freddie Lee Davis aka: Freddie Lee Jenkins, age 44, accelerated away.

Involved truck being towed

There was a short pursuit, and officers attempted to forcibly stop the truck. Davis was able to evade this and then rammed the officer’s vehicle. The truck became inoperable, and Davis was safely taken into custody.

Davis was transported to Lane County Jail and lodged on charges including Reckless Driving and Criminal Mischief in the First Degree, as well as two warrants. He was also cited for Driving While Suspended. Also, as the article states, he was driving a stolen vehicle, and was charged with UUMV.

I-105 eastbound was closed for a time to allow for vehicle towing and the cleanup of oil and fluids.
