Eugene Man Arrested on Child Pornography Charges

  EUGENE, Ore. - A 45-year-old Eugene man, Larry Wayne Merrill , was arrested on Friday, August 29th, 2025, following an investigation by the Eugene Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit (VCU). The investigation began after a cyber tip alerted authorities to Merrill’s online activities. The VCU executed a search warrant on his vehicle and residence in northeast Eugene, leading to his arrest on 10 counts of Encouraging Child Sex Abuse in the First Degree , commonly known as possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM). Merrill was booked into the Lane County Jail, with additional charges pending as the investigation continues. CSAM, also referred to as child pornography, is illegal, and authorities emphasize that the children depicted are unwilling victims. Burglary Crew Targets Asian Families and Businesses in Eugene

Eugene, Or. - An ongoing organized burglary crew is continuing by targeting Asian families and business owners in Eugene with recent residential burglaries focusing on homes likely to contain cash, jewelry, and valuables. Investigators believe the group is responsible for approximately seven burglaries, stealing safes after surveilling victims and breaking in while they are at work. Jensina Hawkins with the Asian American Council of Oregon (AACO) today stated, "Asian American Council of Oregon (AACO) has become aware that certain Asian American community members have been the victims of recent burglaries. We look forward to the collaboration of local law enforcement, including the Eugene Police Department, as well as other state and local officials, to address this matter and ensure the safety of our community. Stolen Vehicle Chase Ends in Fiery Crash in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - A high-speed chase involving a stolen vehicle ended in a fiery crash early Friday morning, August 29, 2025, leaving a Springfield Police Department (SPD) officer and the suspect injured. The incident began around 2:20 a.m. when an SPD officer attempted to stop a reckless driver near Beltline Road and Gateway Street. The driver, operating a vehicle reported stolen from the Salem area, fled, leading officers on a pursuit westbound on Beltline Road into Eugene. The suspect made a U-turn west of Coburg Road, driving eastbound in the westbound lanes, and collided with the pursuing officer’s patrol car. Continuing the wrong way, the suspect evaded the officer, who then turned around to relocate the vehicle near Coburg Road. The chase resumed eastbound, with a second SPD officer joining as the suspect passed Gateway Street. Springfield Domestic Assault Ends in Suspect’s Suicide

Springfield, OR – On August 26, 2025, at approximately 11:15 a.m., Springfield Police Department (SPD) officers responded to a domestic assault report in the 700 block of 60th Street.  The victim, a woman, fled to a neighbor’s home after being assaulted by her husband and hearing a gunshot as she escaped. The neighbor called 911, and officers arrived to evacuate the victim to safety, where medics treated her for non-life-threatening injuries before transporting her to a local hospital. SPD secured the residence’s perimeter, unsure if the suspect would flee or pose further threats. With assistance from the Metro drone team (comprising SPD and Eugene Police Department officers) and an armored vehicle from the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, police maintained containment. Fatal Crash on Highway 97 Claims One Life

DESCHUTES COUNTY, Ore. - On Thursday, August 14, 2025, at 9:49 p.m., a tragic two-vehicle crash occurred on Highway 97 near milepost 145 in Deschutes County, prompting a response from the Oregon State Police. The preliminary investigation revealed that a silver Honda Accord, driven by Felicia Devin Nicholson, 33, of Bend, drifted across the center line and collided with a southbound silver Honda Odyssey operated by Earl Leone Christison IV, 46, of Oregon City.  Felicia Devin Nicholson was pronounced deceased at the scene.  Earlier this month, on August 7, 2025, at 10:19 p.m., Nicholson had been arrested by the Bend Police Department. and faced charges including Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants and three counts of Recklessly Endangering. Sheriff’s Deputies Arrest Suspect in Campground Pistol Incident

  LOWELL, Ore. — On August 14, 2025, at approximately 4 p.m., Lane County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) deputies responded to reports of a man threatening people with a pistol at a campground on Peninsula Road, east of Fall Creek Reservoir, northeast of Lowell. Deputies, aided by an armored rescue vehicle and a drone operator, located victims who had fled after being menaced by an unknown male wielding a firearm. Authorities identified and detained two individuals in the area, one matching the suspect’s description. A pistol was recovered at the scene. Following investigation, deputies arrested Randy Kurtis Bounds , 50, of Ashland, charging him with Unlawful Use of a Weapon and three counts of Menacing. The second individual, Amber Nicole Tyrone, 33, of Eugene, was arrested on a Eugene Municipal Court warrant for Failure to Appear on a Criminal Trespass in the 2nd Degree charge. Springfield Man Dies in Motorcycle Crash on Highway 126

LINN COUNTY, Ore. — A 72-year-old Springfield man, Jan Dwight McSilvers, was killed in a motorcycle crash on Highway 126 near milepost 0 on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at 10:41 a.m., according to Oregon State Police. Preliminary investigations indicate that McSilvers, riding an eastbound Harley Davidson, failed to navigate a curve, causing the motorcycle to leave the roadway and roll on top of him. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash closed the highway for about an hour during the investigation, which remains ongoing. Black Butte EMS and the Oregon Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.
