Springfield Domestic Assault Ends in Suspect’s Suicide
Springfield, OR – On August 26, 2025, at approximately 11:15 a.m., Springfield Police Department (SPD) officers responded to a domestic assault report in the 700 block of 60th Street.
The victim, a woman, fled to a neighbor’s home after being assaulted by her husband and hearing a gunshot as she escaped. The neighbor called 911, and officers arrived to evacuate the victim to safety, where medics treated her for non-life-threatening injuries before transporting her to a local hospital.
SPD secured the residence’s perimeter, unsure if the suspect would flee or pose further threats. With assistance from the Metro drone team (comprising SPD and Eugene Police Department officers) and an armored vehicle from the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, police maintained containment. Crisis negotiators attempted to contact the suspect but were unsuccessful. Information later suggested the gunshot may have been self-inflicted.
Using an open door, drone operators entered the residence and confirmed the suspect was deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Officers then entered, secured the scene, and SPD detectives took over the investigation, confirming the suspect’s death was self-inflicted.
SPD expressed gratitude to the Eugene Police Department and Lane County Sheriff’s Office for their support during the incident.
