Fatal Crash on Highway 97 Claims One Life



DESCHUTES COUNTY, Ore. - On Thursday, August 14, 2025, at 9:49 p.m., a tragic two-vehicle crash occurred on Highway 97 near milepost 145 in Deschutes County, prompting a response from the Oregon State Police.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a silver Honda Accord, driven by Felicia Devin Nicholson, 33, of Bend, drifted across the center line and collided with a southbound silver Honda Odyssey operated by Earl Leone Christison IV, 46, of Oregon City. Felicia Devin Nicholson was pronounced deceased at the scene. 
Earlier this month, on August 7, 2025, at 10:19 p.m., Nicholson had been arrested by the Bend Police Department. and faced charges including Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants and three counts of Recklessly Endangering.
Earl Christison sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. His passenger, Erin Ruth Christison, 45, of Oregon City, and four female juvenile passengers (ages 17, 14, 11, and 9) were also hospitalized with serious injuries. The highway remained closed for approximately three hours during the investigation.
Assisting agencies included the Bend Police Department, Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, Sunriver Police Department, and multiple emergency medical service responders.

Man Arrested for Abuse of Corpse After Woman’s Body Found in Cottage Grove

COTTAGE GROVE, OR – Authorities have arrested a man in connection with the discovery of a deceased woman found on the sidewalk in front of 711 Highway 99 in Cottage Grove. The body was discovered at approximately 3:50 a.m. on March 28, 2025, prompting an immediate response from Cottage Grove Police. Upon arrival, officers determined the woman was deceased. Initially, her identity was withheld pending notification of next of kin. Based on information gathered independently, it was determined that the deceased had been staying at a local motel before her body was moved. Mark Michael Detering , (possibly related in some form) was arrested yesterday for allegedly removing her body from the motel after her death and abandoning it on the sidewalk where it was later discovered.
