EUGENE, Ore. — On September 10, Lane County Sheriff’s Office detectives identified and arrested Clarke Chaos Zyz, 37, also known as Clarke Reese McMakin, of Eugene, in connection with two bank robberies that occurred the previous day in Creswell and Cottage Grove.
The suspect, described as a white male, approximately 6’ 4" tall, 220 pounds, with a medium build and full beard, was last seen wearing a green ball cap, aviator sunglasses, a black jacket, black sweatpants, grey gloves, and black shoes with white soles. Deputies identified his vehicle as a gold 1999 Ford Escort ZX2.
The robberies took place on September 9, with the suspect using a note to demand money and threaten a teller at Banner Bank in Creswell around 2 p.m., following a similar incident earlier that day in Cottage Grove. Eugene Police detectives located Zyz around noon on September 10 near a residence on Green Acres Road, detaining him without incident. After further investigation, Zyz was arrested and booked into Lane County Jail on charges of Robbery in the 2nd Degree, Menacing, and Disorderly Conduct in the 2nd Degree for both incidents.
The Lane County Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude to the Cottage Grove Police Department for their assistance and to community members whose tips aided in Zyz’s identification and arrest. The Eugene Police Department also played a key role, dedicating significant resources to the search within the city.
