Washington Man Menacing With Firearm Arrested At W.11th Walmart

Eugene, Or. - At 4:41 p.m. on February 1, multiple Eugene Police officers responded to the Walmart, 4550 W. 11th Avenue, after callers reported an armed man menacing another. 

Once police arrived, they gave commands to the suspect, later identified as William McClelland Davis, age 45, of Blaine, Washington, and he got down on his stomach in the parking lot. He was safely detained. 

An investigation found the 52-year-old male victim had been walking into the store to shop and Davis, who was in a parked minivan, began to yell at him. The victim did not know Davis and reported that he saw Davis point a firearm at him and so he tried to create distance. He said Davis got out of the van and followed him into the lobby of the store. 

A Walmart employee who saw what was going on, intervened to stop Davis. The employee told Davis to leave the premises, but he refused.

During his arrest, Davis directed a racial slur at an officer and while being transported to Lane County Jail, he was disorderly in the back of the patrol SUV, banging his head on the partition. He was lodged for Criminal Trespass in the Second Degree, Disorderly Conduct, and Menacing. 

Officers spotted a handgun holster on the floorboards of the van and an open pellet handgun box. Officers are in the process of applying for a search warrant to search the minivan. Case 24-01568
