Firefighters Respond to Industrial Fire in West Eugene

Eugene, Or. - At just after 10:30 AM on June 10th, Eugene Springfield Fire was called to a mill in at 2125 Cross St in West Eugene after workers at Architectural Millwork noticed smoke coming from a hopper filled with sawdust.

Generally this means the hopper needs to be evacuated to extinguish the embers, which requires opening the hopper causing a small dust explosion. Crews from Whitaker and West Eugene stations arrived 4 minutes after the call, developed a plan, positioned hose lines to protect exposures, wore protective equipment and breathing apparatus while the hopper was emptied.

The fire was extinguished, no injuries were reported, and ESF fire Marshals are on scene to investigate.
