Eugene Police Arrest Armed Man After Standoff



Eugene, Ore. - Eugene Police arrested a 59-year-old man after a tense standoff in the Sunshine Acres neighborhood on February 12.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., officers responded to a call from construction workers in the 100 block of Sunshine Acres. They reported that a man, later identified as Michael Gordon Graham, approached them, pointed a handgun, and ordered them to leave.

To contain the situation and ensure public safety, police set up a perimeter around Graham’s residence. When initial attempts to contact him failed, officers deployed the BearCat armored vehicle for cover and issued loud hails. Additional resources, including the Drone Team, K9 Unit, and Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT), were brought in to help de-escalate the situation.

After multiple failed attempts to make contact, CNT negotiators eventually reached Graham by phone. He refused to exit and allegedly threatened to shoot any officers who entered his home. At 6:30 p.m., Eugene Police SWAT was activated, and a Lane County Circuit Court judge granted a search warrant for the residence.

Negotiators continued their efforts, maintaining a two-hour dialogue with Graham. Eventually, at 7:46 p.m., he voluntarily exited his home. However, he was reportedly noncompliant with officers' commands to keep his hands visible. Police used two 40mm less-than-lethal rounds to take him safely into custody.

Authorities seized firearms from Graham’s residence, and he was booked into the Lane County Jail on charges of Menacing and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

13-Year-Old Calls 911 on Mother Driving Recklessly

Springfield, Or. - On Monday, August 25, 2024, Springfield Police Department Officers were made aware of a blue Subaru that was being driven recklessly through red lights and traveling eastbound on Beltline towards Springfield.  The Subaru was reported by an 13-year-old juvenile in the vehicle, who had called 911 to report that their mother, Camie Colleen Sorensen , age 43, was driving recklessly and looking for “water to drive into”.  An officer positioned themselves in the Gateway area, in the event that the Subaru entered Springfield. Shortly after, the Subaru passed the officer before briefly yielding at a red light. The vehicle then accelerated away at a high rate of speed as the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop.  The vehicle continued southbound on Pioneer Parkway West, weaving through traffic, and driving dangerously.
