Drug Bust Near Kalapuya High School Leads to Multiple Arrests

Eugene, OR – February 3, 2025 – In a series of successful operations, the Eugene Police Street Crimes Unit (SCU) has made multiple arrests, dismantling a local drug operation and seizing significant amounts of narcotics and weapons.

On December 17, 2024, SCU served a drug-related search warrant at the home of 32-year-old Brandon Kyle McKelligett. The search led to the discovery of three firearms, including one confirmed to be stolen. McKelligett, a convicted felon, was also found with digital scales and narcotics packaging material, signaling his involvement in drug distribution.

McKelligett faces a slew of charges including three counts of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Theft by Receiving (firearm), and multiple drug offenses related to fentanyl and methamphetamine, all occurring within 1,000 feet of Kalapuya High School.

Additionally, during the investigation, SCU arrested 28-year-old Early Ryan Shorey, an associate of McKelligett, for an outstanding arrest warrant. Shorey was seen facilitating a drug deal in a parking lot and was initially detained for his warrant. Further investigation revealed probable cause for additional drug charges, including Unlawful Delivery of a Schedule II Controlled Substance and multiple possession charges related to fentanyl and methamphetamine. Shorey was released from jail, with the charges pending.

In a related incident on January 30, 2025, a Eugene Police officer conducting a routine check at WinCo at 4275 Barger spotted a suspicious vehicle—two men slumped over inside with drug paraphernalia visible. The officer identified the passengers as Shorey, who had an outstanding arrest warrant, and 32-year-old Ryan Reed Hagerman, the driver. Shorey was arrested, and Hagerman was taken into custody on a parole violation warrant.

A search of Hagerman’s vehicle revealed methamphetamine, scales, and packaging materials. Hagerman faces charges of Possession of Methamphetamine and is lodged at the Lane County Jail.

The Street Crimes Unit, which is funded by the Community Safety Payroll Tax, continues to target prolific offenders using intelligence-based policing, tips from the community, and partnerships with local organizations to address immediate safety concerns and improve long-term public security.

This operation highlights SCU’s commitment to cracking down on drug-related crimes and improving safety for all Eugene residents.
