Eugene Police Arrest Repeat Reckless Driver After High-Speed Chase
EUGENE, Ore. — A man with a history of reckless driving led Eugene police on a dangerous high-speed chase Sunday evening before being taken into custody.
At around 5:02 p.m. on March 30, police received multiple reports of hit-and-run incidents involving a Hyundai Sonata, along with calls about reckless driving. An officer spotted the suspect vehicle heading south on River Road near Horn Lane and initiated a traffic stop.
The driver, identified as 37-year-old Andrew Todd Hampton, had previously been in police custody following a reckless driving incident in February. As the officer approached on foot, Hampton sped away, weaving through a residential neighborhood at high speed.
Other officers later located Hampton at Cornwall and Northwest Expressway. He ran multiple red lights, including at Irving Road and Highway 99, before heading toward the parking lot of Jerry’s Home Improvement Center. Police forced the vehicle to a stop and pinned it in the crowded lot.
Despite orders to surrender, Hampton fled on foot, but an officer quickly caught up to him and took him down. He was arrested without further incident and booked into Lane County Jail on multiple charges, including two counts of hit-and-run, three counts of eluding by vehicle, reckless endangering, and three counts of reckless driving.
The incident remains under investigation.

Recently it seems that drivers in this area becoming more aggressive, impatient and dangerous. The other night a car coming up on a side street zoomed up in front of me to make a right turn and was going to run his stop sign and only stopped after I honked at him! He then glared at me as if to say that, "How dare you make me stop!".
