Man Arrested in Eugene for Assault After Robbery Attempt
EUGENE, Ore. — A 29-year-old man was arrested on June 19, 2025, following an assault reported two days earlier in downtown Eugene, police said.
At approximately 7:57 a.m. on June 17, Eugene Police responded to the 800 block of Pearl Street after a woman in her early 40s reported being attacked. According to the victim, a man, later identified as Joel Cox-Lopez, approached her asking for money, as he had done with others in the area. When she responded that she had none, Cox-Lopez allegedly grabbed her tote bag from her shoulder and threw her to the ground, causing injuries to her face, knee, and wrists. The suspect then fled the scene.
After investigation, police identified and arrested Cox-Lopez on June 19. He was booked into Lane County Jail on a misdemeanor assault charge under Eugene City Code 4.729. The EPD case, numbered 25-09605, remains under investigation.
