Sheriff’s Office Arrests Cottage Grove Man in Child Exploitation Investigation



Cottage Grove, Or. - In May 2025, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office initiated an investigation into an adult male communicating inappropriately with a minor online. The investigation identified Frank Dylan Hendricks, a 39-year-old male, as having engaged in illicit sexual conduct with the minor via online platforms.
On June 25, 2025, with assistance from the Cottage Grove Police Department, Lane County Sheriff’s Office detectives served a search warrant at a residence in the 2300 block of East Main Street, Cottage Grove. Hendricks was contacted at the location and arrested on the following charges:
Hendricks was booked into the Lane County Jail. The investigation remains active, and no additional details are available at this time. The Lane County Sheriff’s Office extends gratitude to the Cottage Grove Police Department, a valued member of the Lane County Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, for their critical support.
This arrest reflects the ongoing commitment of local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to combat child exploitation and protect vulnerable community members. The Sheriff’s Office acknowledges the collaborative efforts of the Lane County ICAC Task Force in making this work possible.

Eugene, Or. - At 3 a.m. on September 1, Eugene Police received reports of a loud dispute with shots fired outside a home near Royal Avenue and Ruskin Street. Units arrived to find a woman, Haley Leann Mackin , age 23, deceased with gunshot wounds.  Eugene Police Violent Crimes Unit identified Brandon Daniel Smith , age 24, as the suspect. Man Arrested for Abuse of Corpse After Woman’s Body Found in Cottage Grove

COTTAGE GROVE, OR – Authorities have arrested a man in connection with the discovery of a deceased woman found on the sidewalk in front of 711 Highway 99 in Cottage Grove. The body was discovered at approximately 3:50 a.m. on March 28, 2025, prompting an immediate response from Cottage Grove Police. Upon arrival, officers determined the woman was deceased. Initially, her identity was withheld pending notification of next of kin. Based on information gathered independently, it was determined that the deceased had been staying at a local motel before her body was moved. Mark Michael Detering , (possibly related in some form) was arrested yesterday for allegedly removing her body from the motel after her death and abandoning it on the sidewalk where it was later discovered.
