Bicyclist Injured in Crash with Vehicle at Roosevelt and Hwy. 99
Eugene, Or. - A crash involving a bicycle and a Lexus IS occurred on the evening of January 6 at the intersection of Roosevelt Boulevard and Hwy. 99 North in Eugene. At approximately 5:27 p.m., Eugene Police officers responded to the scene where they found a 45-year-old male bicyclist lying in the middle of southbound Hwy. 99, south of Roosevelt.
Eugene Springfield Fire arrived shortly after and began providing treatment for the bicyclist's non-life-threatening injuries. According to the investigation, the bicyclist was riding without lights and wearing dark clothing, which may have contributed to the incident. He entered the intersection without caution, riding against the pedestrian control device, which signals when it's safe to cross. Meanwhile, the vehicle's driver, a 41-year-old Eugene man, had a green light and proceeded through the intersection.
Following the crash, the driver stopped his vehicle, pulled over, and immediately called 911 to report the incident. The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital for further treatment of his injuries.
The Eugene Police Department is continuing its investigation into the crash. This case is being handled under EPD case number 25-00318. Authorities are urging both cyclists and drivers to exercise caution at intersections, particularly when visibility and traffic signals may pose challenges.
