One Arrested in Series of Veneta Area Burglaries; One Still at Large

VENETA, Ore. – Authorities have arrested a Veneta man in connection with a series of burglaries that occurred in the area over a two-week period in October of 2024.

Lane County Sheriff's Deputies identified Austin James Blaylock, 30, of Veneta, as a suspect in the burglaries of a local restaurant, residence, and market. After serving search warrants at two residences connected to Blaylock, deputies located evidence linking him to the crimes. Blaylock was arrested and booked into the Lane County Jail on multiple charges, including two counts of Burglary in the First Degree, four counts of Burglary in the Second Degree, five counts of Theft in the First Degree, Theft in the Second Degree, and Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree. As of January 14th, Blaylock remains in custody.

Deputies also identified Charles Guy Younkin-Stec, 33, of Veneta, as an additional suspect in the burglaries. In the process of investigating, deputies applied for and were granted a search warrant for Younkin-Stec’s trailer located on Ridiculous Road. Before the search could be executed, Crow High School was burglarized, and over $10,000 worth of items were stolen.

Upon serving the search warrant, deputies found evidence linking Younkin-Stec to the earlier burglaries, including the theft from Crow High School and a recent burglary at an RV storage facility. Further investigation revealed additional evidence tying him to a residential burglary from earlier in the summer, discovered by Linn County officials.

Despite ongoing efforts, deputies have been unable to locate and arrest Younkin-Stec. Authorities believe the lack of cooperation from residents associated with him has hampered the investigation. Younkin-Stec has caused significant financial hardship for local businesses, residents, and students.

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information on Younkin-Stec’s whereabouts to call 541-682-4141.
