Fatal Crash on Highway 126 in Lane County Claims Life of Florence Resident




Lane County, Ore. – January 7, 2025 A fatal single-vehicle crash on Highway 126, near milepost 8, in Lane County, led to the death of a 74-year-old man from Florence. The crash occurred at approximately 3:05 p.m. on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, prompting a response from the Oregon State Police (OSP).


According to the preliminary investigation, the driver of a westbound Ferrari GTB, identified as Victor Joseph Cianci, was traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle. The Ferrari crossed the center line, struck a guardrail, and overturned, ultimately coming to rest in a nearby pond. Despite efforts at the scene, Cianci was declared deceased at the location.

The crash caused significant disruption to traffic along Highway 126, with the highway being closed for approximately two hours while investigators worked at the scene. OSP was assisted by the Lane County Sheriff’s Office during the response and investigation.


Oregon State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit Called to the Scene


In line with protocol for fatal crashes, the Oregon State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) was deployed to assist with the investigation. The CRU is a specialized team trained to investigate fatal and critical injury collisions. This unit utilizes advanced techniques, including small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS), to document and analyze complex motor vehicle crashes.


The CRU team is comprised of highly skilled collision reconstructionists and technical investigators who are responsible for thoroughly documenting and analyzing the circumstances surrounding severe traffic incidents across the state.


At this time, the investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing. Authorities continue to ask for patience as they work to gather more information regarding the circumstances of this tragic incident.
