Fatal Structure Fire in Santa Clara Area Under Investigation
Eugene, Or. - In the early hours of Monday morning, Eugene Springfield Fire (ESF) provided automatic aid to the Lane Fire Authority at the scene of a deadly structure fire in the Santa Clara area. At approximately 1:30 AM, emergency responders were called to reports of multiple explosions and a fully involved house fire at 290 River Loop 2.
Upon arrival, Ladder 11 from ESF’s Santa Clara station was the first crew on the scene. Firefighters immediately entered the burning structure to perform a search for potential victims inside. However, due to extreme heat and the rapidly advancing fire, the team was unable to complete a full search of the residence. As the situation escalated, the operation transitioned from an interior search to a defensive firefighting strategy in an attempt to contain the blaze from the exterior.
According to Fire/EMT call logs, the fire tragically resulted in a fatality. The identity of the deceased has not been released as of this report.
The roadway was closed throughout the morning as firefighters worked through the night to suppress the fire and secure the area. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Lane County Sheriff’s Office along with Lane Fire Authority’s Fire Marshal and the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office. Further updates will be provided as additional information becomes available. Investigators may still be on scene for much of today.
