Pedestrian Identified in Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash on W. 11th

Eugene, Or. - Early on January 3, a tragic hit-and-run incident took place in Eugene, resulting in the death of a 38-year-old man. At approximately 3:28 a.m., Central Lane 911 received a call reporting a person lying in the middle of W. 11th Avenue at Oak Patch Road. Authorities believed the individual had been struck by a vehicle.

Eugene Police (EPD) and Eugene Springfield Fire responded quickly to the scene. Emergency responders transported the pedestrian, later identified as Kevin Matthew Jones, to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Unfortunately, despite medical efforts, Jones succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Following the collision, eastbound W. 11th Avenue was temporarily closed as authorities investigated the incident. Traffic was shut down between Oak Patch Road and Commerce Street. Parts of the vehicle involved were left behind at the scene, and officers were able to make contact with the driver, who returned to the location shortly after the incident.

The EPD’s Major Collision Investigation team is actively working on this case, and further investigation is underway. Authorities are seeking additional information as they piece together the events surrounding this fatal crash. The incident is being handled under EPD case number 25-00143.

As the investigation continues, officials urge anyone with information related to the case to come forward and assist authorities.
