Springfield Mobile Home Fire Uncovers Double Murder, Arson; Suspect Arrested
Springfield, OR – On July 9, 2025, a devastating fire at Santiago Mobile Home Park on 5335 Main Street claimed the lives of an 85-year-old woman and her 64-year-old son.
Eugene-Springfield Fire and Springfield Police responded to 911 calls at 10:58 AM reporting a mobile home engulfed in flames with a person trapped inside. Firefighters extracted the elderly homeowner, who was rushed to a local hospital and later transferred to Portland for advanced care but succumbed to her injuries. Her son was found deceased inside the home after the fire was extinguished.
Investigators from the Springfield Police Department, Eugene-Springfield Fire, Oregon State Police, and the Lane County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the fire was intentionally set. Evidence pointed to Justin Ray Carr, a 29-year-old family member residing at the home, who fled as the fire intensified. Using Automated License Plate Readers, authorities tracked Carr across Oregon into Washington, where he was apprehended with assistance from the Hoquiam and Aberdeen Police Departments.
Carr faces charges of first-degree arson, two counts of first-degree murder, and unlawful manufacture of a destructive device. The investigation remains ongoing, and police urge anyone with information to contact the Springfield Police Department at 541-726-3721.
