Authorities Seize 310 Animals - Euthanize 3

UPDATE - May 20th, 2025:   BANDON, Ore. - On May 18, shortly before 10 p.m., the Oregon State Police completed their search of the West Coast Game Park Safari and cleared the site. The operation resulted in the seizure of 310 animals, which were subsequently transferred to accredited or permitted animal sanctuaries and rescue facilities. No animals were released into the wild or left unattended during the execution of the search warrants.

Regrettably, a chicken and a kinkajou had to be euthanized due to their poor health, in addition to a camel that was euthanized on the first day of the search. The euthanized camel is not the young camel previously shown in a distributed photo.

Investigators are currently analyzing evidence gathered over the four-day search. As the investigation and legal proceedings continue, no additional details can be released at this time.

The Oregon State Police expressed gratitude to their partners and the numerous animal sanctuary and rescue organizations that provided essential support throughout the multi-day operation, noting that their assistance was critical to its success.

BANDON, Ore. — On May 15, 2025, Oregon State Police (OSP), in collaboration with local, state, and federal agencies, executed multiple search warrants at the West Coast Game Park Safari near Bandon as part of a lengthy criminal investigation into the facility’s operations, focusing on animal care and welfare, permitting, licensing, and business practices. As of May 16, animal care specialists continue assessing the welfare of animals on-site, with seized animals being relocated to reputable facilities for specialized veterinary care.

The operation, involving OSP, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, Oregon Humane Society, Oregon Department of Agriculture, Coos County Sheriff’s Office, Coos County District Attorney’s Office, Oregon Department of Justice, and IRS Criminal Investigation, included a thorough inventory and forensic assessment of animals. Veterinarians and staff evaluated animals’ physical conditions, food quality, water supply, sanitation, enclosure conditions, and overall care. The Oregon Humane Society provided fresh feed tailored to each species’ dietary needs, with staff from all agencies assisting in feeding.

During initial assessments on May 15, veterinarians identified one camel with multiple serious medical conditions and significant suffering. On-site veterinary staff determined that treatment or transportation would likely be fatal, leading to the humane euthanasia of the animal. Preplanning for the operation ensured that all seized animals would be transported to accredited or permitted facilities equipped to provide specialized care.

The park remains closed, and the public is asked to avoid the area. Due to the ongoing investigation, limited details are available, with OSP as the primary contact. The complex operation, requiring extensive coordination among agencies and veterinary professionals, underscores OSP’s commitment to protecting Oregon’s wildlife and ensuring animal welfare.
