Springfield Woman Arrested After High-Speed Chase Ends in Crash and Power Outage

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — A 29-year-old Springfield woman, Sadie Jagiello, was arrested on May 16 after leading police on a high-speed chase that ended with her crashing into a power pole, causing widespread outages. The incident began around 9:45 p.m. when a Springfield Police officer attempted to stop Jagiello’s Jeep SUV on I-105 near 42nd Street. Jagiello briefly pulled over before fleeing eastbound, prompting a pursuit.

After a failed attempt to stop her vehicle using a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT maneuver) at the I-105 and Main Street intersection, Jagiello continued east on Main Street. For reasons still under investigation, she then appeared to have intentionally driven into a power pole at 67th Street, shearing it and flipping her vehicle, which caught fire. Officers pulled an unconscious Jagiello from the burning SUV and extinguished the flames.

Eugene/Springfield Fire Department transported Jagiello to a hospital, where she was treated and released to police custody. Authorities determined she was impaired, and a search warrant was obtained for her blood. Jagiello was booked into Lane County Jail on charges of attempting to elude in a motor vehicle, reckless driving, and driving under the influence of intoxicants.

Main Street was closed for hours as Springfield Utility Board crews repaired the damaged pole and restored power to the area.
