Vandals Target Eugene City Hall in Series of Attacks
EUGENE, Ore. — Eugene City Hall has been repeatedly vandalized over the past week, with damages totaling $10,000. The Eugene Police Department is seeking public assistance to identify a suspect captured on surveillance footage.
The first incident occurred between 11:30 p.m. on April 27 and 12:30 a.m. on April 28, when an unknown individual threw rocks through the front doors, damaging glass and the door frame. Repairs are estimated at $4,000. A second attack took place early on April 30, between 12:30 a.m. and 3:30 a.m., with a rock or concrete chunk shattering another glass door, causing $2,000 in damage.
Following the second incident, police deployed a Guardian camera trailer to deter further vandalism and gather evidence. However, on May 4, between 4:30 a.m. and 6 a.m., the suspect approached the trailer, delivered what appeared to be a brief speech while holding a rock, and then threw it through additional windows, causing another $4,000 in damage.
Authorities are urging anyone who recognizes the suspect to contact Detective Shawn Trotter at STrotter@Eugene-or.gov.
