Man Sentenced to 9 Years for Eugene Stabbing

EUGENE, Ore. – Nicholas Matthew Arnold, 41, was sentenced to 108 months (9 years) in prison on May 22, 2025, after being found guilty of Second-Degree Assault in a January 2025 stabbing near Jackson’s Market at 1080 W. 7th Avenue. The court ruled that the first 70 months (just under 6 years) of Arnold’s sentence are ineligible for any form of early release or reduction, though he may be considered for Good Time and Transitional Leave for the remaining 38 months. He will serve one year of post-prison supervision upon release.

Arnold was arrested hours after the January 26 incident, where Eugene Police responded to a 1:44 a.m. call and found a 47-year-old male victim with stab wounds. The victim was treated at a local hospital, and Arnold was apprehended with assistance from a K9 unit and the Violent Crimes Unit. He was initially charged with First-Degree Assault and booked into Lane County Jail under case number 25-01467.

Arnold, also a suspect in a prior stabbing (case 25-00933) and a 2024 misdemeanor assault (case 24-19599), has been transferred to Coffee Creek Correctional Facility for intake, Once his intake is completed, he will be transferred to an all-male prison to serve the remainder of his sentence.
