Fatal Crash on Amazon Parkway Leaves Pedestrian Dead, Driver Injured



EUGENE, Ore. — A tragic accident occurred this morning, April 23, at approximately 9:45 a.m., when a man driving a Toyota Rav 4 northbound on the “s curves” in the 2500 block of Amazon Parkway lost control of his vehicle. The car veered over a curb, crossed a grassy area, and struck a pedestrian walking on a bark path. The vehicle then collided with a tree and rolled into the Amazon slough.

UPDATE: Eugene Police is releasing the names of those involved in the crash:

 

  • Pedestrian Sharon Johnson Schuman, age 79, of Eugene

 

  • Driver Scott Shawn Stolarczyk, age 51, of Eugene

 

The investigation by EPD Major Collision Investigation is ongoing.


The pedestrian, a woman in her late 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, initially trapped inside the vehicle, escaped through the back window and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The Eugene Police Major Collision Investigation team is investigating the crash, identified as Case 25-06466.

Authorities advise drivers to expect detours in the area and to use alternate routes.

  1. Poor pedestrian, minding his/her own business when some idiot loses control? no some idiot was a) going too fast, b) driving recklessly, c) was texting, d) distracted, e) bad driver with a history of violations, DUI..... take your pick.... I'd say manslaughter of the pedestrian.
