Troy Dean Erne Sentenced to 90 Days for Fatal Hit-and-Run
EUGENE, OR — More than eight months after 45-year-old Alisha Diane Rife was struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash on Prairie Road, the driver responsible, Troy Dean Erne, 53, has been convicted and sentenced.
Erne was sentenced yesterday for Failure to Perform Duties of a Driver to Seriously Injured Persons, a felony. He received 90 days in jail, and a five-year (60-month) probation and will not be eligible for early release unless approved by both parties and the court. If he violates probation and it is revoked, he faces an additional 34 months in prison, followed by three years of post-prison supervision. Judge McIntyre will retain jurisdiction over the case in the event of any probation violations.
The Incident
On July 20, 2023, around 11:00 p.m., Rife was struck by a vehicle on Prairie Road near Leghorn Road. Her body was discovered by a business employee the following morning, prompting an investigation by the Lane County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO). Authorities determined that the suspect vehicle was a dark gray BMW 3 Series, likely missing a passenger-side mirror and possibly having front-end damage.
For days, authorities sought the driver. Then, on July 31, 2023, Erne turned himself in to detectives, along with his 2015 BMW sedan, which was confirmed as the vehicle involved in the fatal crash. He was arrested and lodged in the Lane County Jail on charges of Hit & Run (Fatal).
Current Status
Erne is currently being held at the Lane County Jail as he awaits transfer to Coffee Creek Correctional Facility for intake. After processing at Coffee Creek, he will then be transferred to an all-male Oregon state prison to serve his sentence.
With a conviction and sentencing finalized, justice has been served for Alisha Diane Rife and her loved ones.
