Junction City Man Sentenced to 17.5 Years for Child Pornography Crimes
EUGENE, Ore. — Christopher Lyn Sparks, a 59-year-old Junction City resident with two prior convictions, was sentenced to 210 months in federal prison on April 9, 2025, for possessing and distributing child pornography online. Alongside his prison term, Sparks received a lifetime of supervised release.
Sparks’ criminal history includes federal child pornography convictions in 2006 and 2013, as well as violations of his supervised release terms. After his second release in November 2023, he was under lifetime supervision when authorities caught him resuming illegal activities. In May 2024, Portland Police alerted Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) to CyberTipline reports flagging child sex abuse material linked to Sparks across platforms like Google, X, Tumblr, Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, Telegram, and TikTok.
Investigators connected multiple accounts to Sparks, uncovering his efforts to distribute child sexual abuse material while under supervision. An undercover HSI agent engaged Sparks on Telegram, where he openly discussed exploiting children and offered to trade child pornography. On June 11, 2024, agents arrested Sparks after a search warrant led to the seizure of his phone, which contained illicit content.
Sparks faced charges on July 9, 2024, and pleaded guilty to possessing and distributing child pornography on December 11, 2024. The case, investigated by HSI with support from the FBI and Portland Police, was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney William M. McLaren. It falls under Project Safe Childhood, a Justice Department initiative targeting child exploitation.
Authorities urge anyone with information on child exploitation to contact HSI at (866) 347-2423 or report tips at report.cybertip.org.
