California Man Arrested in Oregon for Sexually Abusing Minor Met Online
EUGENE, Ore. — A 23-year-old California man, Michael Matthew Martinez, was arrested on April 14 in Veneta, Oregon, for sexually abusing a minor he met online, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office announced.
The abuse came to light on April 4 when deputies responded to a report in Veneta, revealing that Martinez had traveled from California to Oregon and assaulted the victim multiple times.
The Lane County Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force led the investigation. On April 14, deputies and detectives executed a search warrant at a residence in the 1800 block of Tabor Street, Eugene, where Martinez was apprehended. He was booked into the Lane County Jail on charges including second-degree sex abuse, third-degree sodomy, third-degree rape, encouraging child sex abuse, using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct, online sexual corruption of a child, and luring a minor.
The Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the FBI, emphasized the collaborative efforts of local, state, and federal agencies in combating child exploitation.
