Police responded to the scene and found the victim, who was visiting from out of state, receiving first aid from passersby. He was conscious and breathing, and an officer provided additional care until Eugene Springfield Fire arrived to transport him to a local hospital. The victim told police he had confronted a man in a white van who was talking about violence. The suspect, described as a white male with a thin build, shorter hair, and a cross earring in his right ear, allegedly exited the van, approached the victim, and stabbed him before fleeing.
EPD’s Violent Crimes Unit took over the investigation and later located Johnson’s van at 1910 W. 6th Avenue. During a high-risk stop, Johnson was taken into custody yesterday and brought to EPD headquarters for questioning. While being escorted to a patrol vehicle for transport to Lane County Jail, Johnson reportedly slammed his head against a wall, causing damage and adding a second charge of Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree to his case.
Johnson now faces multiple charges, including Assault in the First Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree related to the stabbing (case 25-05252), as well as an additional Criminal Mischief charge for the hallway incident (case 25-05298). He was booked into Lane County Jail as the investigation continues.
